GCS 4th brake light wire taps

So, I installed this last night. Working great, but now today the brake light portion isn't coming on at all. I'm assuming the wire taps they gave me are garbage. Should I cut the wires and use a wire nut, is there enough slack in the stock harness to get extra wire for that? Also debating using the splices that have a spade connector.

Would butt splices work, if I cut and spliced the wires together?

I hate the idea of cutting the stock wires. But if it's a solid, more permanent connection. Why not

Check my DIY harness solution if you want to avoid cutting stock wires.
