Usually happens to me at the gas station. They ask me if it's a Celica. Then I say, "it's an 86". Then they commend me on its cleanliness and good shape hahaha always a fun chat

You know, 60 years from now, not many will remember what scion was. But I will. And I'll still have my frs badged. And I will be proud. O and by the way the new 86 is just ugly. Why would I want to rep that. Without scion I don't think this car would of ever existed. So for a second time I say I'm proud it's a scion!

Scion was a marketing division with a grand total staff of 35 people. It had nothing to do with the car existing. Nothing. If anything the car helped Scion exist for 1 or 2 more years longer than it may have. If Scion never existed it would just have been a Toyota all along.

Yea, this caught me totally by surprise when the First 86 group went to Long Beach and met the staff. I honestly hadn't done any research on Scion as a brand, but was totally thrown off when we went to "Scion Headquarters" and found out it was basically a 3,000 sqft building with 3 dozen people in total. I think I shook the hand of primarily the entire staff.

All I'm saying my car is a scion plane and simple. People always try to feel special and changing the badge isn't going to do it.

Nah nothing special about changing to Toyota. It is 100% a Toyota after all. Scion was just a badge not a brand and never made a single car in their history. They were all just rebadged Toyotas. Check what your registration calls it.

Yup, Scion was vital to this cars existance. Just look at how much Scion was mentioned or had their logo appear in the development story.

Technically speaking, the first-generation Scion tC had no Toyota equivalent. One could argue that Scion had at least one car exclusive to them, even if it was manufactured by Toyota (as with every other Lexus and Scion excluding the FR-S).

On the topic of the whole swapping badges to feel special, I'm going to swap the badges because I want to. I'm not trying to fool anyone. I just simply like the Toyota badge better.

If only I could find the 86 airbag cover for cheap, I'd jump on swapping that too.

Having an FR-S that could fly would kick ass period. I don't think anyone would care then that it's a Scion. You lucky bastard.

My gripe is not with the Scion brand but with making a spiritual successor to the AE86 and not calling it a Toyota. Subaru is the cross-brand twin so that's different but selling it within Toyota and not calling it a Toyota? Stupid.

That's about as stupid as if they had branded the remade Camaro as a Buick when they started making them again. Actually, it's even more stupid because technically Buick is a higher tier marque than Chevy so at least they would have that going for them. Imagine if some dummy had decided it was a good idea to brand the new Ford GT as a Lincoln. LOL!

Hahaha! I'm so practical that I did rebadge my car. Car got keyed so in order to repaint the rear emblems had to be removed. The new Scion one emblems were so F'n expensive. The FRS nameplate alone was $50.00. So practical me figured out the Toyota badges (3) for $55.00 was a better deal. Yuh, so now my car is rebadged with Toyota emblems.

Its cuz they already knew they would be collectors items like @Tcoat said so prices are already going up

Designed by Toyota engineers, built by a Toyota plant, shipped through the Toyota logistics, warrantied at any Toyota dealer means still Toyota.

Am I the only person that thinks rebadging is pretty stupid? I saw a Chevy SS yesterday with Holden badges on it,and the only thing I was thinking was "Who do you really think you are fooling?" The steering wheel wasn't on the opposite side,so I KNOW it's not a Holden.

Just seems like a waste of time and money to me,but hey,as long as no one's getting hurt...

Don't know that I would say its any more stupid then other purely cosmetic changes, or that most people that are doing it are trying to fool anyone.

For example, I don't think people that add a Transformer badge to their Camaro really believe anyone actually thinks it is Bumblebee.
