My question is this: If our title says "Toyota FR-S", at what point down the line, after a few years, do oil filter and windshield wiper catalogs at your local auto parts store say
"Toyota FR-S". I mean, you can still find windshield wiper replacements for Yugos, right?

Oh, and are the new NADA used car value guides going to have the Scion FR-S values AND the Toyota FR-S values? And are they going to be the same? Is there some intrinsic value to the Toyota name as opposed to the Scion name. And more to the point, is a Subaru more valuable in trade than a Scion? Has anyone on the forum ever done a study of this?

You sure it said Scion? You would be the first. Could have been a Hawaii thing I guess.

Doesn't matter. Was always Toyota

They will have exactly the same value. Scion was just a badge. Trade in depends more on where you are, how many are available, the condition and mileage. There is no such thing as an identical car of each to say one is more valuable than the other.

I don't know if they are perceived as the same. The Toyota name is universal, and for the most part, universally admired. Some of my friends don't even know how to pronounce Scion. "Skion" is sometimes used. If you put a listing for your car on Craigslist, would you get more hits on a listing "Scion FR-S" or "Toyota FR-S". I'm guessing the Toyota would get more hits. So to say that either one is equal in value is probably true. But the perception of the uninformed buying public might be quite a bit different.

Value differences between a similarly equipped FR-S/86, and BRZ are definitely possible even though they are more or less the same car. Look no further than the fact that in the used market, a Chevy Prizm is worth less than an identical condition Corolla of the same year.

That said, peeling your Scion badges off and slapping some Toyota ones on are not going to change anything. The car is still a Scion by VIN and restoring it to its original condition with the original badges is not difficult at all.

I think I'll just keep it a Scion...
I feel the same way.

I am down to zero badges! I started off with the two that were replaced by Toyota badges, and now the originals are gone.

I replaced my FRS badges with 86 badges. I just love people scratching their heads trying to figure out what kind of car it is. Most non car people think it's a Ferrari or Porsche.

I did the exterior badges and center caps on all 4 corners. Oh and my keys too. Now I have the head unit and steering wheel to go. Everything in the glove box? Left them at home. Got a Toyota folder for registration lol sadly all that's left are the expensive bits
