Well something else is up then since sensors would not kill your battery.

Battery was not dead at all. Car could get to accessories mode but wouldn't start / crank over.

Needs an obd2 reader and/or techstream to pull codes & run some diagnostics.

That is a low battery. That is why batteries are rated by cranking amps not accessory amps.

That crossed my mind as well but it wasn'tthe battery as the CAA guy came with a portable battery jumper unit and it still wouldn't crank over. It's something telling the ignition not to start...

CAA guy said the underbody spray probably got to the sensor like you first suggested...

Still shouldn't prevent the car from starting. Obviously something else is up. Presume you were getting to the dealer.

Yup took two CAA trucks to get it out of multi-story garage and then a flatbed to get it over to dealer. By that time service dept. closed so will find out tmrw what's going on.

So the dealer told me it's nothing to do with the underbody rustproofing, but a sensor behind the break pedal.

Fully covered by warranty with no cost to me but takes them a full day to source the part.

Oh well.. guess things aren't always what them seem...

The only thing I know of that is there is the brake light switch and that should not throw a brake system warning and certainly would not stop the car from starting. Unless there is another sensor I am not aware of. Anybody? Something doesn't add up.

Edit:

Thought so. No sensors.

He probably has an Automatic, Brake pedal must be pressed for the engine to start.

Also take a look at this thread:

In my case the switch was not activating the brake light when I pressed the brake lightly, so the ECU looks at master cylinder pressure and says why is there pressure and no brake light and throws a code.
Kinda smart... Look at the master cylinder pressure, see the increase in pressure, realize the brakes switch is not closed (Or open, or what ever the position should be).

Would have had the same issue on a manual if the switch behind the clutch pedal failed. duh
Brake interlock was my suspicion.
