I took my Supra LSD for the first ride tonight and holy braking stability! I'm a fan of late and trail braking but the car was not, now it's planted as can be. It reminds me of my M3 with the big rear tires.
As for noise I got a click or two pulling out of my garage but never again, even doing tight slow turns. I look forward to getting more time on it.

I love my Cusco LSD. Much more predictable (and faster) than the Torsen once you trust it

MFactory Mechanical LSD and 4.88 FD installed
Finally got the MFactory 1.5/2 way installed with a 4.88 Weir Performance final drive. It's amazeballs. Only have about 1300 miles on it so far and my tires suck, so the chattering is a bit high when it's cold. But after a short drive when it warms up there is no chattering at all and overall very little gear noise (I have solid mounts everywhere, so gear whine and tranny noise is expected).
This is my first ever mechanical LSD and jebus this thing make the car STICK! I'm running 1/2 the amount of preload (6 springs, instead of 12) and have the lock capacity % at about 40%. These values might change a bit when I actually get some track wheels/tires next season, but for now it feels wonderful. Locks when I'm harder on the gas, and if I'm feathering the gas it'll slip, then off the gas while in gear going into corner the back end just hugs the inside. This winter will be my first full winter with it installed, but I'm looking forward to the predictability of the ass end on snow tires. Now for the pictures! I'm not very good at pics, but I did take it apart a few times since installing it to check the gear contact patch and clutch pad wear. I haven't been getting on here that much anymore, but thought I'd share my experiences since that's what the community is all about! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I know that this resurrected thread is about clutch-type LSDs, but I think people will be interested in hearing more about your super-short final drive, too. Last edited by RJasonKlein; 09-11-2016 at 11:14 PM. |

I was a bit hesitant about the 4.88 when I ordered it, but I couldn't be happier. I do daily drive the car and it's not bad IMO. Highway driving I'm at about 3900 at 75mph and 4100 at 80mph. That'll get more annoying when I drive to the track, but the highways in the city are 65 so it's just fine, it's also nice to have a little oomph in 6th on the freeway. The gearing wasn't as short as I had envisioned in my head and with the LSD the grip is fantastic. Overall I'm glad that I went with the 4.88 and once the exhaust gets finished and the torque dip dies down, it's going to be even more fun and torquey. Even as it is, you go through the RPM's so quick in the low RPM that the torque dip isn't as noticeable. I also have a 13lb flywheel though too. The car has close to 30,000 at this point and the gear box is great. It has just gotten smoother over time. When it was low on miles it liked being shifted quickly and with assertion, now it's a little more lax. I tend to shift quicker anyway though with the lighter flywheel because the RPM's drop so quickly with the clutch engaged. With the 4.88 and the flywheel it feels a bit more evened out, RPM's rev quick high and low. I will put a short shifter on it eventually though, it's on the list, just low priority. Need grippier tires on rpf1's and new pads/rotors for track/mountain days! Let me know if you have any other questions. Couldn't find a good video on youtube (I can record a quick one if you want), but I can tell that the revs aren't as crazy fast as you might think. Last edited by fika84; 10-20-2016 at 03:52 PM. |
