i can manually insert them, however no data base online has them in my city or surrounding areas so i would have to go and manually find the coordinates on foot or in car and then put them in lol

if you know what streets they're on, I believe google maps is able to give you coordinates if you select the location.

Is there a free database we can use? Not because I'm cheap (well I am) but because I cant justify paying for this when it appears there are no cameras in their database that are near me. I would have to drive about 60-70 miles before I hit one. It would be cool to have this for trips to LA (which I go maybe 1 time a year, if that).

Yup. Some of the descriptions don't quite match up perfectly, so the intersections that I frequently go through I've fixed them. You can get ridiculously descriptive on the head unit, even indicating which direction the camera faces.

But I turned on the alerts so that it warns me only if I'm over the speed limit. It's annoying if they just go off all the time since it cuts into the radio/music.

I know if you tap the camera icon that pops up it seems to turn the alert off, though.

Just installed this in my BRZ. Seems to work great. Appreciate the heads up, it really is cheap insurance.

hallo I'm Marco from Italy,
I have a subaru forester 2014 with harman kardon head unit (the label in the left corner signs ff446ls) and please I would ask information about updating speed camera. Firstly I asked to subaru italy but they told me that according to the european laws they can't provide this service. ( I don't know e.g. why tom tom sell their products without problem).
I read all the post in the forum but I don't understand which becker z I have to download: I have followed the path suggested by DoomsdayJesus but there are different models of becker and "z" series there are only in "becker traffic assist": please, could you suggest me
which I have to download?
thank you in advance for your precious help.

Sorry I missed your request, last 6 months have been nuts for me.

The key to getting the right database is figuring out who makes your head unit. I have no idea what the stock head unit in an Italian market Forester is. If you can PM me the head unit I bet I can find the right file for you.

I'll also send you a PM in case you've lost hope

Thank you for your post, as it reminded me to install the database on my unit. I have done so, and can confirm that it works.

In answer to your question, I selected "Becker Traffic Assist Z" from the menu and it worked like a charm.

BTW, the procedure may have changed slightly since the OP first posted last year. Earlier today, I simply did the following and it worked (I am simply stating what I did, not making any recommendation -- YMMV):

1. I downloaded the file called SpeedcamUpdates.spb from http://www.scdb.info/ and saved it on my computer's hard drive;
2. I removed the SD card from my BRZ (after turning off its engine and removing the key);
3. I inserted the SD card into my computer;
4. I found 2 files in the subfolder \navigation\content\speedcam on the SD card: one called SpeedCamText.txt and another called SpeedcamUpdates.spud (I backed up those two files on my computer, just in case);
5. following the instructions on the http://www.scdb.info/ website, I deleted both files of the files already on the SD card (i.e., I deleted them from the subfolder \navigation\content\speedcam) and copied the file SpeedcamUpdates.spb from my computer (into the same subfolder on the SD card);
6. I properly ejected the SD card from my computer;
7. I inserted the SD card into the head unit on my BRZ (before inserting the car key and turning on the engine);
8. I started the car, looked at the NAV screen and... voilà, a bunch of cameras!

I test drove the car for about 15 minutes and can testify that all eight speed and red light cameras that I know to be on that route popped up where they should have.

PS: The warning chime indeed does come on too early for my taste. By "too early" I mean about 5 blocks from where the camera is located, which IMHO is too far from the camera in an urban environment (where I tested the system).

Looks like they no longer support the Becker Z, as the link is dead and I cant find it on their site...
http://www.scdb.info/en/plugin-becker/
Anyone have a source for the spud file?

That's not the only compatible device. I forget my logic, but I based it off of manufacturers and similar databases after a fair amount of research. In the meantime I also bought a GPS radar detector, but they never update their database :P.

I need to update my database. In the meantime, if you contact the admins using the help/contact us features they are pretty responsive. I'd like to know as well, I'm positive there is more than one system that uses it. IIRC some Harmon Kardon systems use the same.

Keep in mind Fujitsuten makes head units for other manufacturers under different names, HK units can simply use different post processing for sound to be HK. There's a reason BMW GPS sucked for years.
