This is an awesome thread, thank you! I finally hit 1k miles today and was redlining my car... boy is it noisy in the cabin w/this stupid noise generator, serves absolutely no purpose to the car. I will be removing mine.

I just dont understand why you would want to remove the noise generator? Im sure toyobaru designed it to keep animals and debris out of there.
Seems like some people want to fuck with their cars just for the sake of it. |

Alternatively, you could remove the rest of the hose and use a 1" hole plug at the firewall.

Sensor reads actual load so there is no guessing what load level the engine is seeing. MAF sensor 1. The amount of CFM entering the motor is VERY accurate even at low air flow levels. Because of this MAF sensors have a tendency to get better MPG’s (miles per gallon). 2. Most have a built in AIT( Air Intake Temperature ) sensor so you can monitor your actual air intake temps at the sensor.

What's the benefit in removing the noise generator? What exactly is it designed to do?

It's a luxury feature for daily driving to keep the cabin (in car) noise down below a certain RPM (i think 4000?). Above 4k I believe it does nothing. So by removing it you can hear more engine noise across all RPM's. It doesnt effect anything but sound levels if you remove it. And what enthusiast doesnt want to hear their engine?

My .02 as I've deleted it myself. Pretty simple/straightforward, I removed the hose @ the firewall and capped it there. To cap the intake side I took a different approach, the "cheap" route (I plan to order an intake soon (aFe/Takeda's to be exact). Spray painted a aerosol can cap and taped it to the intake. Sure it's cheap, but so is the DA engineer who thought this made a damn difference... should've raised the NVH a smidge and put a straight through axle-back (reminiscent of the 1st gen SRT4) on instead of some "sound generator tube" lol.... Since the other pics are covered already, I'll show a before and after...
![]() PS I couldn't find my flat black spray paint, so the cap is coated in "Brilliant black crystal pearl"... the color of my old SRT8 lol.

I will definitely be removing the noise generator. I think it is quite loud in the cabin at high revs for no good purpose. I am also interested in removing the tube that connects through the firewall, as it will be useless once the noise generator is removed.
At least we don't have to deal with an electronic noise generator (through the stereo system!) like the one on the new BMW M5.
