I know this is an old thread, but have you meanwhile found a shorter seatbelt buckle?

I'm having a similar issue with an aftermarket seat and unless there are any shorter belt buckles which fit, I'm planning to purchase a second driver belt buckle, shorten it and drill another hole in it. In this case that hole can be much smaller (still same screw diameter) so the strength of the belt buckle won't be affected to a significant extend.

If the passenger one is shorter why not try swapping the drivers one and the passengers one or can they not be swapped?

If that works then buy another passenger one rather than another drivers one.

Edit:
Actually, nevermind.
That may not apply to him since he has an aftermarket seat.

No you're correct this problem applies to me too, since I'm also using the original seatbelt including buckle (but as the OP mentioned you cannot swap them - besides I might need it to be shorter anyway).
I'm using this Recaro pole position seat and want to get the buckle (or at least some sort of belt buckle extension of it through that hole - like here: http://www.motor-talk.de/bilder/recaro-pole-position-im-signum-g8899635/recaro-pole-position-abe-2-i203074131.html )

Reviving an old thread.

I have Recaro Pole Position in my car and bought myself a 10" seat belt extender and looped it through the seat opening. I may switch it up and hard mount the extendo itself. I thought I share.
