Driver side seatbelt buckle is too tall...
 

I'd like to start off and say I'm a skinny guy... ~150lbs.

I'm still tall enough to where I prefer to have the seat all the way down in order to get the best rake and natural driving position in pretty much any car.

But with my BRZ I'm finding my seat belt just does not hold me in place that well... I figured out why.

The seat belt buckle is significantly taller on the driver side than the passenger side:

I presume this is to account for larger drivers and ratcheting the seat up higher. But not all cars are like this, and the seat belt location in my previous Impreza with JDM seats was much better:

I tried swapping the driver and passenger side buckles, but the wiring is completely different and not compatible :(

I'm trying to figure out a simple solution to this but I haven't yet. Having the buckle so high causes the belt to not actually wrap around the right side of my waste making it easy to slide around... Its pretty annoying on a car like this with fairly good seats. (the thigh support could be much better with these seats though, my old JDM seats were much better seats)

I'm 6' 2" 250 lbs. and I got plenty of thigh support. Bulk up bro...........:lol:

I assume that drivers belt is longer so short people who have to jack the seat up can still buckle it.

The seatbelts in general in this car are poorly placed. Have you driven without a collared shirt yet?

Especially odd considering it was designed and built in a country with people of an average height less than that of most countries.*

I've already had to accept the fact that I can't have the belt on the passenger side go through the loop. Every time I do, the lady friend always manages to undo it and it rattles.

Oh well.

I have the belt rub my neck all the time, I'm short at 5'5" about 150 everything is great except the way the belt wraps over my shoulder so close to my neck.. If I can keep it "falter" where the strap is, it would work as when I hold that down its fine.. Only thing that really bugs me about the comfort of the car, as now that the seat is broke in its a lot more comfy

I just wish the straps on the shoulder of the seat actually kept the belt in place instead of unsnapping if I do so much as sneeze. Maybe a little threadlocker would help.

I'm 5'10 haven't had any problems with the seatbelt buckle and the strap holds the belt off my neck. And yes I have to strap the passenger belt to avoid rattle.

I hate that strap too. Well, actually I love it. I hate that it unsnaps when I give it the slowest bit of force. I had to learn to put the seatbelt on sloooooowwwwwwwly.

Cushion on the seat.

I keep my belt snapped all the time. I've never had the button come unsnapped, even getting in and out of the car and moving the seat back and forth. I'm only 5'6 and the belt doesn't rub on my neck either. It sits right across my shoulder.
I've also noticed threads where people say the headrest pushes their head too far forward. I noticed my head while driving doesn't even sit back against the headrest. Are you guys sitting with the seat straight up? Mine is slightly reclined.

Yea my seat is almost 90 degrees and my head doesn't touch the headrest.

I think a lot of people are used to the gangsta lean...

Ok, I ended up buying one of these cheap child seatbelt locks to try for autocross, and its quite effective at keeping my ass planted.

But it also illustrates my problem with the seatbelt location...

Note how far up the belt is in this photo:

The lock does keep me in my seat, but its not 100% effective because the right side with the belt being so high doesn't wrap around my waist and hold me in place like the other side does.

I really want to fix this somehow XD

CG Lock is $60... Child belt lock like the one I got is $6 for two...

Neither one solves the actual problem of the belt attachment location being too high up.
