Harrop TVS86 STi BRZ tS

They're available through many mainstream Subaru dealers. They were an option for the 2016-17 WRX and I paid almost $1500 all said and done. Rubber was almost $900. Conversion spacers were $275. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yikes! That's pricey! I know you were concerned and wanted a bit more rubber for the extra HP but do you really think the JDM ones and their respective tires would prove to be that much of a liability?

Yeah not exactly cheap, but I needed new tires regardless. Yeah that was my central concern; would an extra inch be worth it? I wasn't sure if it was going to be and I received feedback that a 225/40/18 setup would still be fine for traction purposes, even with some forced induction, but I decided to go for it. I know eventually that I will do a full exhaust, and start using e85 depending on where I live in the next year, so that means more power, in which case the larger tires will be useful.

I agree, the brz isn't exactly slow, you just need to wring it out and keep it revvy, but regardless I'm ready for the SC.

Obviously there are a myriad of FI options out there so what made you decide to go with Harrop's rendition?

Turbos were out, simply because I don't do the whole whoosh BOV thing and they don't have the linear feel that a larger displacement engine or supercharger make. Make way more power tho and are technically more efficient. For superchargers it was between a rotrex or eaton style blower. The more elegant option was anything with an eaton so that means Cosworth, Edelbrock and Harrop. Cosworth was overpriced, edelbrock is ugly IMO and the Harrop is just gorgeous. They all have about the same performance, all come from good companies with excellent support etc., so it becomes a matter of preference, appearance, availability and price etc. Forced induction forum has it all laid out.

Until the day you get to drive a supercharged version. I had the same opinion as you for 3 years until i decided to take the plunge. To be fair a N/A doesnt really have a lineal power band with that torque dip @ 4000rpm. Whether its worth the $$ will always be a fair argument, but the extra torque is fabulous.

do you get a lot of rain/snow where you live in Nevada? if you don't (like here in SoCal) you probably could have gotten away with stickier summer tires on your old wheels and have no issues with traction. wider does not always mean better since the type of rubber matters as well. PSS are a good option though for a mixture of dry/wet grip but super expensive lol

Agreed, I think I could have gotten away with it too, but we do get quite a bit of rain/snow everything in the winter. Weather changes in a snap here. Obviously summer tires are useless in the snow, so I don't drive those days, but we only have deep snow for maybe a week out of the year in a wet winter. Rest of the time it's rain. Will be interesting to feel the difference with this setup as opposed to my old. The Michelins should way out perform the Toyos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reno/Tahoe area?
I had a similar idea for my series.blue with the 18x8.5 wheels but I got lucky and found a set of my dream wheels, Enkei RS05RRs, for a steal on croooober. Loving your build. |
