You can't vent the top of the wg to atm.

If you do, the MAX boost you will ever see is the spring.

The top and the bottom need to go to the solenoid to control it properly.

Presently I'm on the 10 pound wastegate spring. I am tuned with the Hydra standalone, and I plan to install an EBC and have the ECU control boost, when I tune for higher boost.

If I were to want to control boost per each gear (like 1st=8lbs, 2nd=10lbs, 3rd and up=highest boost) is there one setup that is better?

You cannot use a EBC to control boost below your wastegate spring pressure. If you have a 10psi spring, your lowest boost cannot be 8psi with a boost controller.

Thats not true.

You can set the duty cycle of the solenoid to hold the wg open if you want.

Huh? WGs aren't held open, they are held closed.

In order to open the WG sooner than the spring pressure you'd either have add positive pressure on the bottom WG port from some source other than the turbo or put a vacuum on the top port to pull the diaphragm upwards. I've never seen or heard of anyone doing either of those things since while doable, it would be incredibly complicated, and you could just buy a lower pressure spring for $15.

And yes you can VTA the top port of the WG. In a simple MBC/bleed setup you are just bleeding off air from the bottom WG port so the spring sees less pressure and the top port is always left VTA. However with a 3-port solenoid you would generally hook up to the top port and bleed from there to keep the WG shut longer, and it's much safer since if the line melts or the solenoid goes kaput you just get spring pressure and not 30 PSI.

Yes, that is true.

But there are ways to get lower than spring pressure. Not saying they are always conventional, but sometimes they are needed.

When you connected the solenoid to the connector, you just left the purge and everything as is right? or did you completely remove the purge ?

My purge valve is connected and all lines in place like stock. Just disconnected the electric connector and connected it to the EBCS, nothing else.
