It wouldn't be that hard to build an FR-S electric. Take a Fiat 500e or Spark EV donor. Swap everything over. With some custom halfshafts, losing the backseat, some sheetmetal cutting, and a bit of fabbing, you can place the EV motor and transmission right in line with the old differential. The car already has electric steering. The donor car already has an electric AC. Do it right and you'd end up with a frunk! Easier than doing the whole system from scratch, for sure.

Exactly! For most people, 300 miles (500kms) easily covers a full week of driving.

Wait for a Tesla Model 3 to get wrote off due to a fender bender. Buy the donor.
Remove all exterior body-panels from Tesla 3 leaving you with a RWD electric vehicle platform that includes all the niceties of life. Remove all underbody structure from FRS. Drop FRS body over Tesla chassis. Bit of welding as needed. Drive EV. |

All you would need is some wheels that have hub motors. Put em on the front and we'd have AWD!

I don't care what powers my car as long as I can get in my car, enter a random waypoint into my GPS somewhere in North America and have a reasonable expectation of getting there without having to worry about where I will get fuel, and all my cars need to meet that criteria. I'm not going to own something just to use "in town" or "just where Musk has determined its OK for me to drive". When the infrastructure is there, I'll pick whatever car meets 1) my driving needs 2) my style preferences and 3) my pocketbook. The car that meets all 3 the best will be in my driveway. That's how the F-RS ended up there. In the end, there is nothing 'green' about electric cars. They are like airport security since 9/11, it makes us all feel better but it doesn't really make anything better, just has its own set of impacts. I'm OK with that, and again would own one, but it has to meet my needs. Now a "toy", in my case a motorcycle, would be fine and I've actually considered them. But again, they don't yet meet the 3 criteria above. 1 is met (I ride limited range, don't take long trips on them any longer) but they do not meet 2 or 3.
