Lol tbh, he has a point. Subaru cars don't win any "looking" award... Except GM chassis... but that's all opinion

What you don't understand that SOME people want a small relatively light turbo AWD COUPE? (The same super small market segment that didn't buy Turbo AWD DSM's when they were brand new but love them now that they're used and cheap.) Subaru doesn't "already offer" it for a reason...and no a WRX/STi is not that. A bigger 5 door hatch/4 door sedan does not equal miata sized coupe. They don't offer it because those cars don't sell more than 5% of the total production.

Instead of wanting more power and AWD, I think it'd be sweet if the BRZ weighed 2500#. |

I have the feeling that if they wanted to build a light awd coupe, then it woudn't be based on the ZC6, they'd have to engineer a new chassis.
I dunno if that's worthwhile (remember the twins are funded by Toyota money). As suggested, an Impreza 2 door would be better.

I'd say there is no way possible that it would be AWD. The architecture is designed around the FR layout and getting the engine sitting as low as possible. You'd have to redesign almost every mounting point and suspension point on the entire front end of the chassis. "But I could do that with a few brackets like when they swap an RB into a 240!" Yes, but it also needs to meet safety standards that your backyard engineered swap doesn't have to.
I don't even understand why you'd want AWD anyway. It flies in the face of what this car's mission is. Adding AWD and a turbo would push it into STi territory as far as price, and at that point why not just get the STi? If there's going to be an STi version, which I don't think there should be, then it should be in keeping with the mission statement of the car. At most there should be 250hp, slightly different spring and damper tuning, lighter weight parts(Steel->Aluminum. Aluminum->CF), and a slightly bigger brake package. Anything more than that is rediculous and unnecessary.

Here's the answer: Park a BRZ next to an STi...and you'll see that these people don't want a huge 5 door wagon/4 door sedan. They want a small sexy coupe with turbo and awd. I know it's impossible for us to understand that they're completely comfortable with the less practical/capable choice, but that's what they want. Some people just want a small sexy coupe and have no need for the utility of a wagon or sedan. I can appreciate that but: Problem is Subaru will never build such a car. All they have to do is ask Mitsubishi how well their last turbo awd eclipses sold. 90% + of all cars sold were FWD. The Turbo AWD cars were super expensive and nobody bought them when they were new. They're only popular because of the used market. There is no reason for Toyobaru to spend wads of cash re-engineering the BRZ platform to shoehorn AWD into it for such a miniscule demographic.

I bring up price because you never really want 2 cars competing at the same price point in the same market. That's why Subaru would never think of building an AWD, turbo BRZ. Like you said, I guess I just don't understand why you'd pay the same amount as one vehicle to get a less powerful, more impractical, and more than likely, similair handling vehicle with less utility. Then again, for the same as a BRZ I can get a base WRX. I guess the RWD and handling are what sets this apart from the more powerful WRX in my mind.

People do stupid stuff all the time... but in this case it probably all comes down to looks/size/styling ![]() you'd be surprised at how many car purchases are based on those criteria alone
