YES! AWD Turbo BRZ in the works for sure!!!
|
AWD is physically impossible with the engine/transmission layout. (unless it's electric)
And simply based upon that, I will ignore everything else that article has to say. |
All wheel drive? Really? Come on. Not in this car.
|
Yeah I just want the increased power. Not an understeering hog due to AWD.
RWD is the funnest. However, if you live somewhere that gets alot of snow and you're not experienced with RWD it can be attractive. Also, an awd turbo version will capture a larger segment of people that refuse to buy a non-turbo, non-awd subaru. |
I'll say it again, AWD will never happen on this car.
|
Yeah, they'll definitely make a BRZ with AWD and a turbo. It'll be a bit larger too. They'll call it the 2014 WRX.
|
Wouldn't it be "BAWDZ" and not "BRZ" :P
Also, mad conjecture up in here. |
I don't know how they are going to turbo charge it when the car is already sitting close to the ground. The new legacy in Japan powered by a turbo charged version of the FA engine has the turbo at the bottom of the engine. Mount that in a BRZ and it'll be scraping the ground. http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...-in-japan.html

OP: you do realize that the front axles in a AWD BRZ would have to pass THOUGH the engine block, right? The author of this article, despite whatever it says his credentials are, has no idea what he's talking about.
|
Read the article carefully... Toshio only said turbo, whereas the author merely mentioned AWD, so AWD is not on the table. Rumors are exactly that - he only states "We can mix all of these elements" which IMO does not imply it is in development but rather an idea in consideration. IF a turbo version were to come out, it would be at least in the 2nd gen since the convertible version is already confirmed and probably be put on the next WRX first.
|
I'll take it as grain of salt. IF it happens, good for them! But expect ridiculous $$$$$... but prob they gonna call it BRZ 22b STI to catch Subie fans heart or something.
Just as a thought. Subaru’s Product Planning Chief, Toshio Masuda only stated “We can mix all of these elements.” They "CAN"... but that doesn't mean they "WILL". Subaru has enough technology to put AWD system in the BRZ (we had this debate long time ago). BUT that doesn't mean they will put that technology. |
Boxer, REAR-WHEEL DRIVE, Zenith
|
Keep dreaming....
More power, better suspension, lighter, better brakes - yes, turbo, AWD - no. |
