Monkey Oil Change - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

So I had my 2014 brz shipped from an out of state dealer to a local dealer yesterday to buy it. Thing is sweet. Wake up this morning and the thing has pissed all over my driveway... Moral of the story is Use Crush Washers When You Change Oil In A BRZ... good job certified Chevy Mechanic.
The little baby puddle in the picture is from less than an hour of sitting in my garage... The driveway was soaked.

Who changed the oil .... ??

If it was the local dealer, I'd take it back to them and have then fix it.

If it wasn't a local shop, just get a new crush washer, drain the oil and refill it.

That oil doesn't look all that new to me ...... maybe it's time for a and filter change anyway ........

PS - doesn't look to me like it has any kind of washer under on drain plug.

No it was an out of state chevy dealer that did the oil change before i bought it.

Yeah drain plug looked hella flush so my first thought were crush washer. eneded up going to subaru and getting the washer and an oem filter. It didnt have a crush washer when i changed oil.

For the time it takes and the floor jack id have to buy and supplies, my dealership does it. They take good care of my second hand FRS and I have recourse if something goes wrong. Shame about your car

I always get a little cranky paying $60+ for an oil change. Filter and oil and a few minutes to drain and fill.

For the oil aspect alone, long term the Jack easily pays for itself. And handy if/when drain transmission oil later too or do any other underbody work.

Speaking of which, are most people here also using Motul for engine oil? Other brands recommended? Normal vs. Synthetic?

I don't know about most people ....... but my take on crankcase oil for the FR-S (non track use) is any full synthetic, 0W-20 motor oil.

Lots of people on here seem to like Mobile1.

I have always preached on penzoil platinum but local shop didnt have it in 0w-20.... so i just bought the Valvoline 0w-20 full synthetic. Edit: The book says you if you use normal conventional oil go with 5w-30 to compensate. but only do this for one oil change and must use the 0w-20 for the next change) Not sure if its that big of deal though cause im sure all the turbo guys are running atleast 5w-30 full synthetic I would think

Some of posts I've seen really recommend Motul for transmission, etc. Thought maybe the trend carried to engine oil too.

My FR-S is DD. Not tracking her. Next oil change coming up soon so thanks for feedback!

Well, that could be used in an old motorcycle, in your lawn mower or to pour on tree stumps you don't want sprouting .......

Google FUMOTO OIL CHANGE VALVES. Simple, effective, safe and easier if you do your own oil changes. With out removing/replacing the oil pan plug, you virtually eliminate the crush washer issue. A good product.

My only beef with Fumoto valves is you don't get it all out. Usually you can get one that doesn't stick out much past the pan, which is my secondary concern.

Crush washers are cheap (a dollar?), the Fumoto saves you a whopping 30 seconds each oil change for about a one time $15. I don't see there being a huge benefit, but I also don't see the drawbacks as being huge either.
