Where'd the monkey butt red go?
First of all, yes, I searched.
When the original FT-86 and FR-S concepts debuted in all of their "monkey butt red" glory, I thought it was said at one point that it was going to be a production color. Any idea when this changed? I don't mind the red that was delivered, but I much prefer lots of tasty flake. |

I'd like to know, too. I had my heart set on Firestorm initially but once I saw it in person I realized it wasn't the awesome metallic red the concept was wearing but a slightly more pedestrian flat red. After seeing it, I was glad I chose to take the Ultramarine.
It's still a great color, don't get me wrong - but if it had been the concept color I'd have been very cross at myself for not waiting for it.

A Red pearl wouldve been nice at least, probably the only reason why I cringe sometimes when I see another BRZ/FRS with sparkles.

right, if I remember correctly Toyota was also saying there would be a lot of colors available on this car
![]() though I could be wrong so take that with a grain of salt

Yes, that was a big disappointment for me too. I have a firestorm but I would sure love to have that butt red. Perhaps next year that might be one of the few changes I'm hoping they make.

I hate metallic red. Been a huge fan of flat glossy red for quite some time and I think the FR-S looks fantastic in it.

This, it's the same red from the current WRX/STi just like the white, grey, silver, black, dark blue and WRB.

![]() I emailed Subaru about that a while back. I did get a reply, basically just thanking me for my input. I'm guessing it might be an STi exclusive. We'll see. |

Subaru is building the cars, why take the time to come up with a new red when they already have one ready to apply? That's the reason.

I would have bought a pacific blue metallic type color were it available. Then again, I really would've jumped on a "plum crazy" purple too!
