I want to go old-school mechanical. I have a 0-100 that I need to test to see if it can handle startup pressure. I'll have to find a 0-150 if it gets tweaked.

She's gonna be buried for a couple minutes, mine sees 140+ if I start driving before a warm up.

I got super lucky and basically got mine from Perrin for free because of various other things that happened but I didn't say that outloud.

If you help me with a boost gauge, I'll help you with the oil pressure gauge. I need to get @Jonesy86 MAP plate so I can try drilling/tapping it so I can get a reading. If you guys pull off his supercharger, you should see if you can get the tiny bolt off the back without stripping it like I did mine for a much easier way to get a boost reading without drilling/tapping. Although if you can get mine out then I won't need to drill a MAP plate.
Doug is curious, why a boost gauge? You have a supercharger so your boost level is 100% tied to engine RPM and isn't influenced heavily by any other variables. The only time it would change is in the event of a belt snap or similar, or am I missing something? Do you have a real wideband yet?

Yikes. Good to know. I won't bother with the 100 psi gauge.

Is that why you were surprised how I drove off the other day? I figured as long as I keep it below 3K I should be ok, no?

I'm sure, the engineers must have designed it to be flogged from cold, after all it has a relief valve set at around 140, but for me (running 30 wt) I see about 3-4X stable pressure on cold start for the first few minutes.

For reference when cold I prefer to "shift at 120psi" rather than a specific rpm, little more dynamic.

100 PSI will get you the entire warmed up operational range!

Is the oil pressure gauge really that important on a stock motor for one of these? I mean I feel like the Oil Pressure Gauge and a Wideband are like, essentials, generally, just wasn't sure what others thought.

For me, and given that it's common knowledge that oil pressure is an issue on this platform, yes an oil pressure sensor is essential. especially considering that by the time the light comes on your bearings are already toast.

I'm fine with using the built in AFR sensor for the time being though.

Basically the only reason is 'cause race car. No good reason really.

Gotcha, that was really more my question was if oil pressure is an issue even in stock form with the FA20. Thanks!

Guess it depends, if you drive relatively hard it's a good idea definitely, not so much if it's just a sporty commuter. However, smart money says @Chen would have seen something odd on a pressure gauge far before things started getting all knocky.

You all motivated me to add a pressure sensor lol.

I have the p3cars gauge already, just gonna add a sensor to it. We'll see how it goes.

I probably would of. I still haven't heard back from the dealer. I'll have to call them today or harass them in person tomorrow, well see.

Yeah, @Chen's issue is exactly the reason I've been yammering on about pressure gauges. I am a fan of mechanical gauges because of their bandwidth. When the gauge flutters, interesting things are revealed like when bubbles are picked up due to sloshing or overfill.

There is one scenario in which a pressure gauge will not help; galley or orifice blockage. I don't know how they've been building them recently but the early FA20s had lots of goop slopped in places where pieces could break off like blood clots causing a heart attack. -___-

Word, it's on my to-add list for sure. Not sure if I'll want to add the P3cars gauge and buy the sensors or just buy a separate wideband and oil pressure for the bling factor (and ability to monitor both separately). Probably the latter, but I can't find anyone who makes a matching wideband and oil pressure gauge. Smh.

I don't think the p3cars gauge is worth it, but it came with my car and I don't really want to add any other gauges anywhere.

It's $60 to add the oil pressure stuff using the prosport sender and wiring, plus the adapter for the galley plug.

If you're going to add a big bulky sender (like usually comes with some of the gauges) it's best to remote mount it with a 12-24" section of braided line. That way you don't run the risk of snapping the sender with vibrations and whatnot from the motor.
