The FR-S DRL is actually the high beam illuminated at low (half?) power. That's why it looks yellow. This is actually a good economical use of available resources. The high beam is used at full power only a fraction of the time. Operated at low power, it doesn't cut into the life of the bulb. Running all the lights during the day uses up the life of all the bulbs.

Now, as far as disconnecting the DRL resistor, I'm not a fan. The electrical contacts are exposed to the elements. Kill it in the software. That's why the option exists.

Learned something new today! That's why when one switches to LED DRLs, high beam functionality is lost. (At least that's what I presume happens).

Not going to lie, I do like the LEDs...

That's not the reason why LED bulb swaps for the oem halogen DRLs lose high beam functionality though, it's simply because a lot of the LED bulbs aren't designed as a high/low beam. The LED bulbs with high/low beam functionality usually have two sides with two super bright chips, one is on in the low beam configuration, they then both come on in high beam configuration. If you find one of those that should restore the high beam functionality, but quite frankly the light output of led bulb swaps isn't that great @Diode Dynamics had a great piece on why led bulbs shouldn't be used in most headlight applications

Well, I would have no problem with DRL's IF they were not toggled by the handbrake (emergency brake). I have disabled the DRL's on all my cars since my WRX back in 2002, because it is (in my opinion) ridiculous to have them tied in to the handbrake. I use my handbrake extensively when stopped on any incline in the road (and before anyone suggests it, I do heel-toe extensively when driving....but not when pulling away from an incline.....I use the handbrake for that).

I don't want the person in front of my thinking I am flashing my lights at them every time I stop, and then pull away on a hill.

I asked a service rep at the Subaru dealership to increase the beep volume on my door locks. He didn't look at me blankly. Instead, he said, "Sure, we can do that. The minimum charge to access the computer is $200."

If the dealer wanted $200, then you should just buy a tactrix and install techstream yourself...then you can do whatever you want, whenever you want...lol

There can be a downside if you are getting an insurance discount because the car has DRLs and you have disabled them. Likely to go unnoticed after an accident, but I could see where it could cause you an issue once it does.

Big downside here would be the $250 ticket for disabling a safety device on a vehicle so equipped. Anybody disabling them may want to check their local laws or be prepared to pay up without whining if they get a ticket.
