There are 2 possible ways which are the safest and doesn't involve touching wiring:

1) Get a techstream cable and use this to install techstream:

Use techstream to disable the DRL around $20 for a good techstream cable

2) My favorite as I've done this beta for awhile:

Get a $5 bluetooth OBD-II dongle and download an pay $20 for the app carista on the itunes or play store and use it to disable the DRLs. You can also use that same bluetooth obd 2 dongle for another app called torque which is awesome and can be used for real time displays and logging.

Random thought: I seem to recall when I was reading the car manual from cover to cover that this is an ECU setting that you can have the dealer set for you. They can turn off DRL, set timing for auto lock, how long the lights stay on after lock, whether it beeps or not when you remote lock, and a couple of other options that were supposed to be set during initial delivery.

Or I may be imagining it, not sure, but thought I would throw this out there as I seem to recall that DRL was one of the options that the dealer could just change if you asked for it.

To answer humfrz:

I disabled them when had stock headlights because i don't like the look. I feel it makes the car look cheap. Since i bought winjet headlights though i have turned them back on

My guess is because they dont look good.
Yes, I think DRL is a great idea and everybody should have them, there is literally no downside.

On the otherhand, I feel like ours look like they were borrowed off an older car. I dont love them, and would replace them with something else, but I would still have them either way.

Because I want my fog lights to stand out during the day... Lmao

Nah I'm keeping mine.

That's exactly right, that's what the carista app and techstream both change. You can even change on the FR-S how long to wait before it auto locks the doors after being unattended. Those aren't set at delivery/initialization they honestly are set at the factory default from the ecu. If you ask a mechanic at toyota to edit them they may just look blankly at you

Swap them out for Winjets :) you'll get the LED DRL which will standout alot more.

I put LED bulbs in at 6k temp and looks way better than the yellow halogens.

Thanks for responding to my question.

Well, now, folks ....... I usually try to keep an open mind to most things.

So, I went out and fired up my machine (MT) and the DRLs came on. I set the parking brake to get out to look at them and they went off.

I'm thinking that I never would (almost never) leave my car running in neutral and exit it, without setting the parking brake........ so, I would never see my machines DRLs, even if they were ugly.

So, I left my car running and got out and looked at the DRLs. I think they look pretty neat.

What a relief for me, now knowing, that I'm not driving around with ugly front lights, just for the sake of safety .......

humfrz - another slow day in Puyallup ...... :sigh:
