@MisterSheep Nope, I did not have any noticeable changes in sound (except a lack of grinding). My gearbox does whine a little bit, when changing into second or (mainly) first while rolling, but it also did that before the fluid change and it's not loud.

ah okay, because in my last trans I had it changed to motul but I then noticed the trans being extremely loud and whinny a couple thousand miles later and the dealership warrantied the trans. just been iffy about going back and paying to change the fluid again..

Gotcha, well one of the best things about Motul is that they integrate a flexible hose into their bottle so you can actually change the fluid yourself pretty easily with just jack stands and hand tools

After changing to Motul I got a loud knocking noise from my transmission at idle when its cold. But it goes away when its warmed up. Also, 2nd gear grind went away after fluid change.

That's your throw out bearing making noise. It happens to everyone basically, but I also noticed it was more audible when switching to motul.

Here is the noise I am getting now all of a sudden, never had any problems, got a 2012 model, manual, on start up now, there is this scratching sound if I depress the clutch like 5mm in and once fully in it also makes a noise, tried getting a video of it but it just doesn't come across like it does in person.

New findings, this morning my car had stood outside overnight and the last two nights is the first time it has been prettt cold, came back home now, car standing in a relatively warm garage and went to start her up to see if it is still there, and now it is very faint, very weird, will monitor over weekend and maybe take to dealership if it still is bad by Monday

My car ground 2nd a lot when I first got it. I had to skip to 3rd a lot. If I remember right about 18k it started acting a lot better. This was only when cold of course, when warm it always acted fine. Still using OE fluid.

Am I the only guy that has never had any issue at all with second? I just mentioned in the starting problems thread how I was baffled how some of these cars have issues and others do not. I have not once experienced any shifting problems even when very cold (I have zero incentive to lie about this) and am over 60K miles on the original tranny oil.

Never had issues either. But then again I tend to drive above 4k RPM all the time, heh.

No. I've come to the conclusion that many people simply don't have the ability for muscle memory, so their movements are just not as precise and they miss the gate. I'd add to that the possibility that their sense of timing is similarly lacking, so while they insist the cluch is in, it may not be...

This conclusion is the result of a sample size of one, but... it would only take a very little bit of either scenario to cause 2nd to be crunchy, and that kind of problem only gets worse as you pound at it.

I admit, my transmission is picky when cold about 2nd, but it's very easy to work with. I also occasionally have to put it in 2nd to get it into 1st at a dead stop when it's cold. It seems to be a transmission designed to be somewhat precise and not too sloppy; a little variance in assembly could easily account for relative levels of pickiness, but...

High pitched whine under partial load but only at speeds above 60.

Prior to changing from redline last week I could barely hear anything from my transmission.

Diff and trans were pretty dirty after 45K
