My ESC turning off. At first seemingly randomly but I eventually found the pattern.

Basically my batteries got to a point where I could only engage about 50% boost (about 2/3 the pedal) and when I did my voltmeter would drop. Quick. I was hitting 18.0V while holding the pedal at about 2/3 throttle for a few seconds and when it dropped below 18V the ESC would disengage until I released the pedal and re-engaged it. If I tried to engage 100% boost at full throttle the ESC wouldn't even start.

Also, my voltmeter was reading 28.6 or 28.7 at idle. On the new batteries, I'm back to a consistent 28.3V

Well, I will finally have my batteries and some plastic bits here by Saturday. So if all goes as planned I will start my ESC install on Sunday. I only mention this, cause if i have any questions I will likely be on here asking for assistance this weekend.

Not that any of you "usual suspects" owe me a damn thing. But, if youre available I would appreciate the help. With any luck, I dont imagine there being any issues. We will see if my soldering was up to the task.

Thinking of trying to put 4 of these with the PC680 in the engine bay. The width would be 15 inchs for all 5.

I just wonder if there will be any performance increase from the extra capacity.

I also what to try to figure out how many amps are be pulled with a multimeter to see if the system is getting its 4000W max. Amps X Voltage = Power (W).

At 22V load that means I need to see 182 A.

I only received 1 big crank from battery mart, so the install is on hold.

Don't know where you're going to find a multimeter that will measure 182 Amps. I sure as Hell wouldn't want to be holding it when you make the measurement. That is a dangerous amount of current.

How about home Depot? Amps are typically measured with a collar around the wire. No direct contact. Perfectly safe.

That's an Amp Clamp. It only works on AC. To measure DC Amps the meter needs to be in series with the load. That is to say, the entire current is going through the meter. And it's ALOT.

Wow
You're right! They DO have DC Amp clamps that use a Hall Effect Device. Sorry I guess I'm living in the past.
Gotta get up to date.

Guys I would recommend staying with Robs recommendations. He has tested several batteries.

I just like to tinker. Rob is also trying to find a cost/performance balance. I'm not. Don't care as much about cost.

Several batteries is good but there are hundreds. He also seems to like battery mart.

I'll have to get my hands on the inductive dc amp clamps.

Fair enough. Just trying to give warning just in case.
