The longer story. The wife and I both AX and track our cars. The wife had a Boxster and I had the BRZ. When we got pregnant, we decided to share a car and decided to keep the less expensive of the two. Well, I have always wanted to own an S2000 and being the new dad i was, I started to think life was over and i needed to hurry up and experience as much as i could before "BABY". So i convinced the wife to share an S2000 over the BRZ. I loved it, not really more than the BRZ but i did like the sharper, edgier nature of the car. Or maybe it was the rawness. Anyways, I enjoyed it by myself while the wife couldnt really race for a while, cause "pregnant". Well, baby came, and we found out we could still enjoy our cars and racing. But the wife hated the S2000. Too raw, too twitchy, etc etc. She was spoiled by the Boxster. So we went out and drove several cars together. Surprise, she preferred the BRZ over the C5 Z06, Camaro 1LE, S2000, Miata ND, Miata NC and a few others. She wasnt happy with the loss of power, but she agreed the BRZ was the most fun through the cones. I told her i could mod any of the cars and make them better, but she said lets get another Subie in the garage. She understands that adding power is easy, but making a big car handle better is tricky at best. So here i am 3 months later. Another BRZ. Another Header. Another ESC. And whole lot more E85. We will be around for a while this time.

Just checking in. In a few days I'll be a two year owner of the ESC.
Runs just as flawlessly as day one. I don't engage it often - every once in a while just to make sure it's still functional lol, and those times when I'm punching it in and out of traffic, on ramps, passing. It's gotten to the point where I'm not even cognizant of it being engaged - I just accelerate and go, then the volt meter tells me "yeah, a thank you is in order, I just got you onto the interstate ahead of all that traffic. Again." The flex fuel kit has very much enhanced the experience and I'm blessed to have several stations very close which carry e85. I'm at 52,000 miles, still with the original junk tires which are now bald. Just bought a set of Direzza DZ102's, so I'll be a little anxious to flex the ESC muscle again at some of my favorite "open it up" spots. |

Another checking-in post here. It's been a little over 6mo since my install.
Tonight I went to a weekly meet that's starting back up now that the weather is getting nice again. It was the usual folks I'd seen before and a couple of new faces. One of the new guys was psyched to see the Phantom and asked for a demo ride...To which I was all too happy to oblige! There was also an old 86 buddy who I hadn't seen since getting the Phantom whom needed a demo as well. For Demo-ing, I take 1 passenger on a 2-pass run. 1st pass is with the ESC turned off (how convenient is it to just have an on/off switch right on the little voltmeter box!?), ripping from 1st up to 4th and then slowing down (it's a mall area after all and the low-end is really where the full punch of the ESC is felt anyway). 2nd pass is the same run, but with the ESC turned on. On both 1st runs it's so easy to demonstrate that torque dip this car has. You stomp on the gas and wait wait wait THEN the powerband finally kicks in, but by then you're already quickly approaching redline and have to shift-up and do it all over again. ![]() Then the 2nd runs are like...Torque dip? Fuck that torque dip! Where the car was lagging before (especially that usual 2nd gear forever ramp-up), now you're sucked into your seat cause the ESC powerband is eating torque dips' lunch. No buyer remorse here, not in the slightest!

ACE HEADER INSTALLED!!!!
I have left a post in the other (ACE HEADER) thread. A graph is up. I will report back with more info as I am able to post it. But I may have to go back and get a dyno with the ESC installed as well. We shall see. Oh, love this Header. I was pleasantly surprised, the car is much more fun to drive. Its like your in vtec all the time, yo. Yes that was a smartass comment. But actually, its pretty true. Lets put it this way. I don't miss my S2000 (when in vtec above 6000rpms) near as much as I did.

One thing I have noticed in the few short months of owning the kit is the weather effects the performance alot. Also seems like its takes a couple bursts to get the batteries doing their best even if ambient temp is warm. Sometimes I barely feel the kick especially if you activate in the 5k rpm range. Seems like it needs wot around 3k to really feel it. I know the boost tapers...
70-80F weather is faster but meh. Even on e85. 40F weather is Anyone agree? Maybe I'm just getting use to it. But its leaving me wanting more now...

Someone a long time ago suggested using the air conditioning compressor to supply cold air to the ESC. This would be a good idea except for the fact that the AC doesn't produce near the volume of air required for the ESC. |

Yes we do need an intercooler but that wont work with this kit since there is a pressure drop in a intercooler and the system cant compensate obviously. Be curious to see what REALLY happens though no one has tried it. If you had a twin setup this would probably work or be more practical.

they can be had on ebay for less than 500. Should flow more than enough given the low boost these put out.

You mean an intercooler? There way less than that for an off brand:
