I think I have how the soft limit works. By pulling timing just before hitting the actual limit, the car loses a little power, then the rev limiter drops it just enough to get back into full advance so it cycles back and forth between those two states. The hard limit makes full power right up to the limit then abruptly drops down a full 350 rpm before the power comes back on.
Does this sound about right? With the loss in power, the car with the soft setup might never actually reach the rev limit.

Hey is there a way to raise the limiter higher than 7600 to maybe 7800?

You can raise the rev limiter as high as you want. But the question is what is safe for the engine. 7800 should be ok but it's not something that is really useful since peak power is around 7000rpm in most cars.

I really hate the original rev limiter - it's like flying through the windshield! It's ok if the new rev limit doesn`t effect anything in normal driving mode (D) but in manual mode it would be helpful (but not necessary). But the soft rev limiter is much more important! Can someone please show me a tutorial to implement the soft rev limiter in the ECU ROM for cars with automatic transmission? I'll get my OFT in one or two days, then i know which version i have to use. |

TCM maps would be awesome, even if they weren't modified or anything, I don't know if the tablet can flash this but I know techstream does it through the ecu. Being able to update the car to the latest TCM logic would be awesome, especially for people who have had dealers refuse the recent TSB to stop the bad shifting. It would be awesome for you guys to bring it out eventually!!!

there is a problem. I'm note sure now because my OFT will not arrive until this afternoon or maybe tomorrow so i can't read my stock ROM now - but i think i have version ZA1J700I or maybe allready ZA1JA00I. But in the current OTS v2.072 folder is only the romraider xml definition for version RR_ZA1JA01I. This definition doesn't work with 700I and A00I! Where can i get the correct definition and why is it not in the file like for all other versions? I am afraid doing something wrong. |

with the oft tune they will produce you will get upgraded to A01I which is the latest compatable rom for your car. Dealer should have upgraded at service as the older rom had idle problem and no transient ignition retard. |

I'll do so after reading my current rom. I know about the idle problem with the old software versions but not every car was affected and for this reason in Germany and Austria not every car received an update. Do you think it is possible to add the patches for launch control rev limiter in the automatic rom definition files? I'm pretty sure it is not good for the converter but if traction control is deactivated, you can hit the brake and accelerator at same time to rise up the rpm. Then when you go from the brake you can start with the higher rpm. So if there is a rpm limiter at about 2500 rpm under about 3 mph you can easily make starts with a little bit wheelspin. Stall speed of the converter is about 2000 rpm i guess. |

you would have to physically modify transmission and torque converter |

But it is possible to rev up to about 3500rpm (if trc and vsc is off) with the left foot completely on the break pedal until the car starts to move. I did this once with the GT86 (to do a burnout on slippery road) and very often with a 1987 Trans Am. I think this work with all torque converter transmissions if the breaking force is strong enough to avoid the wheels from moving. |

I dont think a launch control makes sense with an auto.
Usually the LC limiter is active when the car is in neutral, so if you brake and press the accelerator you will not end up in the limiter, right? It could work if you switch the lever to N which makes absolutely no sense to me... |

Bringing this thread back up from the dead as I'm trying to raise my rev limit, and I want to fully understand what I'm doing.
Before you tell me - yes, I know there's not much power up there. I'm doing this purely to save a shift to 3rd gear on most autocross courses which, even with a power dip, tends to be faster than up/down shifting. Quote:
The question I have is where should I scale the axis? Right now the table jumps from 7000, to 7450, to 7600, with the last one containing the soft limiter timing. I'm assuming the ECU scales the timing values linearly between 7450 to 7600? Or do the timing values used by the ECU change discretely/abruptly as the motor goes from 7599 RPM to 7600? I'd greatly appreciate any insight anyone has. Thanks. |
