^^^This.
When I moved from Tennessee to Louisiana, my insurance doubled. Literally. Then it went up again at the next renewal term. Same cars. Same person. Same driving record. The only thing that changed was that I moved to a state with drive-thru daiquiri bars and the highest claims in the nation. This is why you can't compare rates with other people. You may live in an area where it's just simply riskier for you to leave your driveway than in another area. The insurance company charges you based on your total risk, not just on you personally and your personal driving record. Insurance companies do not automatically raise your rates when you get a ticket, because they don't automatically know about them. They have access to the information if they need to reassess your risk, but it doesn't feed automatically to your account. |

One more AAA rant... we broke down a few months ago and called AAA (we've been premier members for many years; I drive a lot of old cars). The nice folks there took our info and said they'd send a tow out for us. I know that can take a while.. I'm patient and appreciate the help. Well, 45 minutes later they called back and said that the ONE guy in the area was busy and couldn't come. She was going to call around and get back to me. She never did. After another hour, I called in a favor and had a mechanic friend come out and we managed to cob things together enough to limp it to his shop a few miles away relatively safely. About six hours later, AAA called my house to see if we were satisfied with their roadside service!!! Unbelievable. In all fairness, that's the only negative experience I've had w/ their roadside service. Everyone's allowed one strike. We're still members. I will NOT use their insurance again, ever. Just sayin'... Approx. 978/6 months for me. Have almost everything maxed out. Going to go lower stuff later in a week or two. Also, have a 2000 Frontier with my plan.
FR-S approx. $90/month (it's in CA, that's why its high before you ask). 26yrs old, driving for 10 years no issues. Clean license. Frontier approx. $65/month. I'm on Progressive. If I got married it'd drop up to $15/month.

@MuseChaser - I had a great experience with AAA. I got a multi-policy discount for also having homeowner's with them. They even sent me a refund check for the current policy term.
My experience with Geico customer service was also quite good -- I had a minor claim and everything went smoothly. |

Alex and Joe..
Glad you had a good experience, and point taken regarding regional differences. We were w/ Nationwide for almost 20 years, and they provided absolutely STELLAR service and I can't think of a single mistake they ever made on our policies (auto and homeowners). The few claims we had in that time were handled cheerfully, kindly, accurately, and swiftly. When we relocated, we stayed with them. On a whim, after a few years in our new location, I got a couple other quotes when our Nationwide agent retired. To my surprise, the quotes we got were literally HALF what we were paying Nationwide, for the same coverage limits. Sooo.. we switched to AAA. The agent was great.. until the sale was made and they had our policy. Ever since, she was difficult to get hold of, didn't return emails, rarely returned phone calls, constantly made errors in our coverage, the two claims (one homeowner, one aforementioned deer incident) were both a nightmare w/ incorrectly issued checks, depreciation recovery not paid even though the paperwork was filed in the case of homeowners.. just awful. Yes, we got a discount for having homeowners and auto with them. Yes, their rates were very good. Yes, we got what we paid for... and less. Soooo.. for us.. Liberty Mutual. According to the NYS DMV, they have the highest customer service rating in the state. Good enough for me. If you don't need to make changes or a claim, AAA does have excellent rates if all you care about is satisfying your state's minimum insurance laws. If you don't live where I do, then, as you say, AAA may very well be an excellent choice. OR.. maybe I just have a big ol' sign on my back that says "Get THIS guy!'... could be. Barry |

That's for sure! I traded my beloved Protege after 12 years of driving turned it into a beater. Now I have my beloved nearly new BRZ (oh, and suddenly a speeding ticket. And, oh yes, the wreck). How could I be such an idiot? My six-month insurance premium: beater = $486. Loud, sexy new (repaired) sports car = $1335. I will have paid the whole repair bill out of my own pocket in three years. They're so good to me. At least I have insurance at all.

Crazy. Full coverage on my 2013 BRZ is running around $530 a year, or $44 a month. 25 years old... no tickets, no points, no accidents.

I use progressive and pay semi-annually. Full coverage, GAP, road side, 500 ded comes out to around 51/month. It costs me more to insure my 4-door sedan believe it or not.
