I can rig our Mustang Dyno to read high too. Which is why I only tune on the Mustang but post all power graphs from an industry standard Dynojet.

With the vast ways to manipulate dynos to read high the only real proof would be a time slip from a 1/4 mile pass. But then again people can strip the weight out of their cars to manipulate 1/4 mile times. In closing the only real way would be a dyno shoot out all cars using same dyno teched in, good luck with that unless some money is involved.......

.. or we need to have some 'golden standard' that can be used across all the dynos as baseline to calibrate against and that dyno owners will agree upon. Think of something like prototype metre bar used in SI. Something artificial that won't change it's results no matter what dyno it's dynoed on unlike cars, numbers of which fluctuate a lot even as completely stock.

We just set a new world record on ACN 91 octane... It is as simple as adding some numbers together.

1. Baseline your vehicle, in this case a 2013 Subaru BRZ on a ACN 91 Octane Tune. Baseline dyno pull of 170hp with a vehicle weight of 2750 lbs (manufacturer suggested weight)...

2. Change the vehicle simulation numbers so the weight of the vehicle is heavier (in this case 3125 lbs) then what is specified by the manufacturer and baseline the vehicle again. An instant 6 horsepower…

3. Increase the temperature the weather station is reading from 60 degrees to 140 degrees (a blow dryer or radiator works well for this) and baseline the vehicle again. Another 14 horsepower…

4. That is 190hp, a gain of 20hp (16hp + 14hp = 20hp) with some simple tweaks to the dyno.

Cheers,

Thanks for that. But, can you tell me why the power increases substantially with more weight and heat? I know literally nothing about tuning on a dyno, and wouldn't mind learning something new

I think it has to do with air density. Warm air is less dense than cold air. Less air density equals less power. You might notice it when you drive the car on a cold winter day vs a hot summer day. So, in theory, if the car can spin the rollers to say 60mph in 10 seconds at 0C and 10 seconds at 30C, the computer assumes that the car is making more power. The same can be said with weight. Heavier should equate to slower acceleration, so if the acceleration is the same at a lower weight, the car is making more power.

Sorry, I had a nerd moment lol..

It doesn't change the raw reading, just the corrected output.
