what is CARB legal? (haven't heard that term before) Are you talking specifically about a OFT tune or Ecutek or something else?

Interesting, I would have thought the emissions would be more related to the ECU tuning rather than the kit?
So people running FI on the 86 on your 91octane, do they use OFT or Ecutek tunes? Seems like most of the reflashing tunes specify a premium 93 or E85 fuel.. |

You can do tricky things with the three-way catalyst... but generally speaking, this means that the ECU tune is maintaining a pretty tight range of cylinder temperature/pressures. Here are some popular graphs that illustrate emissions and how things change with temp/pressure/O2. Too hot (or lean), and you get NOx. Too much pressure (or rich), and you get HC. CARB tunes keep the mixture near stoichiometry (chemical balance) and cylinder temps/pressures low enough. You may not get the best power or fuel economy from a CARB tune... but it's likely to be very reliable and safe.

That being said. I eventually went intercooled and flex fuel and power is now feeling dull for my taste. If I had another chance probably would go edelbrock for the chance at more power or possibly even turbo. |

Since you're next door to Australia don't forget about Harrop, shouldn't be that much different than edelbrock.

Thanks for the replies, are their any opinions about which kit would be best suited to 93octane fuel? (our 98Ron is the best I can get - no E85 at the pumps)
I assume this will mean a low boost application. |
