If the brz or frs shows up in the next fast and furious movie then yes.

@enjetek it wont be like the " rsx, integra, civic, 240, miata" but much more than those forward wheel drive and weak rwd.
You are confusing desirable with collectable. Cars such as those you listed are sought out by people that actually wish to drive them and are desirable. Collectable cars usually sit in a garage and only see the light of day on rare occasions.
In a way the desirable category is better since it keeps the cars in a higher profile and helps them maintain value well after production ends.

Hey, it was doing it's best compared to what it was up against.
The movies aren't called "The Moderately Quick and the Mildly Annoyed"

Maybe in 10-15 years they will become the new 240sx once they get cheap enough, but a collectible?

I think, in next 10 years or so, BRZ will be more like S2000....extremely hard to find a stock unmolested car and in 15-20 years like Fox body mustang, as we are currently seeing fox body mustangs in good condition fetching more money that thr original retail cost!!

This post makes me want to mod my car less even though I know it won't be a collectible, I just know it'll be a higher price with less crazy mods and more "factory" stuff

Also, I doubt any of the cars on this list will be the next GTO... they're all mass-produced cars that don't differ significantly from their contemporaries and have no racing pedigree. The BRZ may hold its value better than most things on that list, but I wouldn't call it collectible. Also, current GTI's becoming collectible? Hahahahahahahaha...
Considering my local dealership offered me 18k trade-in for my $30,000 MSRP DGM Auto Limited, I have serious doubts the value of these cars is going to skyrocket down the road. They'll probably always be worth less than MSRP, even if they're in immaculate like new condition with low miles. Cars are a terrible investment and a gigantic gamble that doesn't pay off nearly as well as learning how to trade stocks.

Well, dealers are notorious for making dog-shit trade-in offers, but yeah-- I wouldn't be putting my BRZ in a climate-controlled glass cube and waiting for it to become a $60,000 car. There's just no way.

At best the 86 will end up like the Miata: a cult-car nearly universally appreciated for it's driving characteristics and affordability. Though with the amount of slow-bashing that seems to have become the norm in reviews, maybe we won't even get that far (I honestly have no idea how people who croon about Miatas straight-facededly call the 86 out for being slow, but that's another topic).

That's OK, though-- it's not like we'll ever have to look at luxury car levels of absolute depreciation... a $15k loss over several years in order to have an awesome little car is totally worthwhile, and those of us who had the patience to wait for used ones to hit the market will have an even more carefree experience.

None of the "special" series are that special to make any difference in the long run.
Not like you are looking at a 6 cylinder base 1965 Mustang against an 8 fastback top of the line.
The few minor difference will not mean a thing I am afraid.
Besides as said before as desirable as any of these may be down the road the odds of them ever being collectable are pretty low.

Lol there are already more 86s on the road than S2ks were ever shipped to this continent, they will continue selling them here for a minimum of 2 more years.

Your fox body assessment is more accurate, keep your car in perfect condition for 25-30 years and you will get the same amount of money as if you had just stuffed the cash under your mattress, this applies to other mint cars of the era, rx7, ae86 etc. Factor in maintenance and running costs and its a pretty poor financial decision.

Drive it into the ground, take care of it and if you dig it, keep it, maybe your kids will enjoy it or sell it for like a house down payment or something.
