Do we know when they updated? Serial numbers?

Some talk of head restrictions to get more oil to the crank. Subaru have already done this with the holes in the rocker posts. Early engines have massive holes in the right bank of tappets, whereas later engines have smaller holes in all 16 rocker posts. I don't remember the actual size differences, but it's quite big when considering area.

So my early 2012 car is likely fucked. roger

No way. I have no idea when the change was made, I just noticed the difference on a rebuild of my 2012 engine. I believe there were issues with the cam timing? This may be something to do with it??
I have a 2012 and a 2014, this is how I found the difference. The earlier engines have a different part no for left and right rocker posts, later they're the same.

Heres a pic of the left and right next to each other..

You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the correct part? I'd like to order a set so I can update the one side when I pull the engine to adjust the valve lash. It would also be really good info to have available.

Thanks by the way.

Also, is it just me, or are those holes huge for the given purpose?

Sorry, I don't have the part numbers. Before changing anything, you might want to check the timing gears haven't changed to suit the different pressure in that are.. I doubt it, but you might want to be sure first??

Good point, I'll keep that in mind for sure.

I see your misunderstanding. It's a gear type pump. If you look up positive displacement gear pump you can find a few helpful animations to explain it. The gear doesn't turn the pump, the gear IS the pump. Well, it is the guts of the pump. The gear and outer ring are the part that actually moves the oil. These gears form a bigger pocket, moving more oil per rev.

The real confusion was that their product description only mentions stronger gears for reliability. It makes no note of higher flow rates or improved pressure. I actually wanted to "dominate all" and got "overnight parts from Japan." They arrived at Moto-East yesterday for installation while they rebuild my engine.

HA

I know it doesn't. That was figured out mathematically after purchasing it and finding that the tooth profile and count did not match stock. The assertion still hasn't been tested or documented. These engines don't hold anywhere near sufficient oil pressure to shatter a sintered gear. If they did, that would be a valid concern. The old Nissan RB and SR motors had problems shattering their sintered oil pumps. Even in the FA though, the outer ring stretches measurably over time.

When I spoke with element a few months ago, they said they didn't see favorable results with the reimax gear/pump. I'm surprised Phil hasn't posted about it yet.

do you have the actual hole sizes between the two parts? as I wonder how much of the oil pressure loss at high rpm is down to leakage ?
I'm assuming that the later part has the smaller hole ?

I only read the first page of 86... But has anyone mentioned an oil accumulator? I like them for my street cars due to having oil pressure before the crank start to turn. But I know they are in use heavily in drag cars. (ie extreme g force causing oil to go away from the pickup)... Just my 2 cents.

Search this thread >> "accumulator" >> 32 hits. Nope, no one's thought of that.
