Winter is the wrong time to be worried about looks. He is running an 18x9.5 et40 with 265 tires. No where near where you want to be in winter.

As previously said. Skinny is where it's at for proper winter driving. The wider the tire in winter, the worst the traction becomes.

Edit: not really. Tire size will effect the acceleration but the 195/55-205/55 is pretty much the same as stock. Nothing will change
Thanks I was thinking lowering an inch when I do but should I get 215/55/18 since I don't have the $$ to change stock rims? I want to get chrome rims but they are probably expensive maybe I can get cheaper 16 rims for my winter tires then?

So I take it I should have winter tires with rims and summer tires with nice rims?

Steelies are just black steal rims. Like what your spare tire is mounted on. You want a narrow tire in the winter for the most grip. A wider tire will 'float' on top of the snow, and a skinnier tire will 'cut' through the snow until it reaches something more solid (the road). Think of it like wearing snow shoes vs just boots.

Here's the car when I had it my first winter (stock height)

Winter #2 (Lowered on RCE Yellow springs/RA Mudflaps)

Ok so for winter I'm going to go with 205/55/16 ws80 blizzaks on steelies. Tire rack quoted me $122 each tire with $55 2 day shipping with a total of $545 and with steelies at $60 each it would be $847

My $0.02

I'd check out craigslist. I found full sets of WRX 16s with winter tires going for $300-500.

These are in my area though...

This is a good idea. I'd at least look for winter wheels on CL, since there are usually some sets of steelies available in most places for relatively cheap vs buying brand new steelies from TR.

Or if you don't want to get steelies, mount winter tires on the stock wheels, and use that as an excuse to get new 'summer' wheels. That's what I did

Generally not much. If you got $400 for a perfect set of wheels and new tires, I think you'd be doing well...

I paid $350 for an extra set of stock wheels and tires. Then turned around and sold them for $450 to pick up my autocross/track wheels. haha

Looking to get steelies for winter though.

I just took a quick look in the member For Sale section, and I see two sets of stock wheels/tires for sale - $200 bucks for the first set; clean wheels with two tires needing replacement, and 350 for the second, also clean wheels with all 4 tires in very usable condition. There might be more, but those were the first two I saw on page 1...
