Winter setup

Seeing as how the temps have really dropped off this week I'm wondering what everyone plans on doing for their winter rim/tire setup. Personally, I'm debating between getting some 16" steelies and winter tires or spending a little more for some Rota or Motegi rims and winter tires just for aesthetics.

Check to make sure the brakes will fit inside a 16" rim first. Plenty of opinions have already been given on the forum. Just peel back a few layers

16's will fit fine. I will be running 16x7 +50 with Blizzak ws-60's.

Thanks Mr. Search nazi. I already did search and did not find what I was looking for. To quantify this for your imperial regulations, I searched the entire forum using the search word "winter" and have read every post. As with any other forum, if you don't want to post anything constructive, ignore it and move on.

16" steelies will fit. I'm not asking about fitment, I'm asking what others plan on doing now that it's getting closer to winter.

No reason to get nasty, or even go with the "nazi" moniker. I'm sorry I wasn't able to read your mind and know that you had searched already. In that thread, I'm Jewish, and I take offense to your use of the nazi insult (which, frankly, is ironic, given the circumstance). Killing 10 million people and trying to get people to stop being lazy and do some forum searching are hardly equal.

OK, let's start over. I asked a question about what folks in this specific regional forum are planning on doing. If you don't have anything constructive to add, please move on. To be honest, not sure why someone from OH is posting in a regional forum for NJ/NY/PA/CT.

I'm sorry if you were offended by the "search nazi" moniker, but if you're not a stranger to forums you should be very familiar with that term and that it is not meant to insult. If you don't have anything else to contribute that specifically answers my question, i.e. what are you going to run this winter, then just move on.

Fair enough. My point was made, though I do consider "Nazi" to be overused anyways...but that's besides the point. And, frankly, with the Atlantic region being so large, you guys are going to see a wide variety of conditions, some of which are similar to the northern Ohio area I am from (ask anyone from Buffalo, Lake Effect snow is a bitch).

I, for one, will be running my old tC rims (same bolt pattern, 17") with the Continental winter tires that I have used for the past 3 seasons. I may consider adding weight to the back, depending on how tail-happy the FR-S is.

Thanks Hunter. I wasn't even aware that the tC rims would fit. I've been trying to find someone with WRX or stock rims that they didn't want anymore but I can definitely expand my search now. I know steelies will be the cheapest route to go, but I just don't know if I can roll with them as they just look so ugly.

Any 5x100 wheel will fit. Try and keep the offset close to the stock, +48, and you will be good to go.

If you decide to run 16's, be sure to adjust the tire size to compensate for the smaller diameter wheel. 205/55 R16 should work perfectly.

Like I said before, I will be running my old set of wheels from a previous car. They are a cheap pair of wheels off tirerack and I'm running WS- 60's.

Stock sizes for BRZ:
Size: 17x7
Offset: +48
Tire: 215/45

That should help widen your selection process as well.

Thanks Engee. I was aware of the 5x100 bolt pattern. Just did not know that the tC used the same bolt pattern and would fit with the right offset.

Putting Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3's on my stock rims, keeping the stock size of 215/45R17.

Come Spring, I'll be looking for a lightweight set of 17x8 rims and putting 245/40R17 summers on em.

Ok, now I am worried, the offset for the tC wheel is +45, which is fairly close to the +48 of the FR-S. Anyone wanna chime in if the 3 mm will make a difference?
