ajcarson11, i've just installed the Invidia Q300 with the Tomei UEL header. In-cabin noise is great now. Noticeable louder than stock muffler (which i had one previously with just the header) but not too loud that you can't have conversations when you have the windows up. Windows down and you can enjoy your spirited driving

I too have the q300 with ft86sf catted uel headers and the cabin noise became noticeably louder, but not too loud. Nice little rumble until about 4.5k rpm

If you are concerned with only adding a small amount of noise considering looking at the Corsa Catback.

I liked stock soundtube's sound and idea behind it - get more enjoyable sound inside for driver, without making car louder to people outside, by using simple & cheap lightweight plastic piece. What i didn't like - that it also passed lot of road noise inside cabin.
I wonder if some sound insulation around it won't help on that, or it's dead idea, as it will still pass road noise due rest of air inlet parts not being noise-insulated? Whatever drawbacks of soundtube are, exhaust aftermarket upgrades are much more expensive and also will make car way louder and more annoying to common people/neighbours/cops outside it. |

Folding down the rear seats increases the amount of exhaust noise making it to the passenger compartment as well. I don't know if it'll be enough on the stock exhaust, but it's definitely noticeable with my Perrin FP and cat back.

but as far as what the OP is looking for, i'd recommend a perrin 2.5 inch resonated exhaust. Great exhaust note, not overly loud and doesn't just punish your brain with noise. very mature sound when cruising around and just screams when you're ripping her above 5k rpm.

Thanks for the replies everyone -- Didn't receive notification that any more replies were posted here.
I do like the sound-tube (especially after tune), however i find the firing 'beat' produced by the sound tube doesn't sound natural with the RPM of the engine. I do enjoy it however, and like that it is the most practical option! I will check into the Q300 and Perrin 2.5. Wish I could find others nearby that use this setup. I see no reason to change the FP or OP, and it seems like most people do. |

Invidia N1 is a nice and affordable option as well. Not sure why it wasn't really mentioned here, I have pretty much the same setup.

I have the greddy sp elite axle back with a berk high-flow catted frontpipe. Sounds pretty good loud enough to hear when you go WOT in the cabin and sounds decently loud outside the cabin all with no drone.

Replace the sound tube with a proper intake. Won't give you any performance boost, but it will make the front end sound mean. My Perrin with sound tube delete is louder and meaner in the cabin than the sound tube with stock intake.

^ Listen to this guy.
You don't need exhaust but a good intake noise to cover up the engine noise for cabin noise. Good exhaust doesn't equal to good cabin noise, most of them are simply too loud for day to day driving & you will get tired of it very fast. This engine don't really have a pleasant noise & it's loud due to not that much isolation on firewall/interior dash area. Last edited by chaoskaze; 09-09-2015 at 04:38 PM. |
