WOW! My first impression of this thread is somewhat like:


"I want to go to the moon.
I have a Soviet Buran, and a box of estes rocket engines, How do I hook it up?"


After reading just the first post I thought to myself: "Is there even room in the footwell for a Tilton bias box with dual master cylinders"
Then I thought "How in the hell could you install an aftermarket MC system, but retain the ABS?"

I thought about this some more, and the #1 thing that needs to be done (before buying parts) is to make a diagram of the brake system.
Include lots of pictures and assumptions about how the system works.


Since the system has VSC (it can APPLY brakes as well as release them) it must be able to release/re-pressurize the system without pumping the brakes.
How does it do that?


Does the ABS valve manifold have a separate Input for each caliper, or is it a manifold and has one IN for front & one IN for rear?
Is there ONE MC for Front & ONE MC for rear?
Are The Master Cylinder(s) co-linear (like in my Porsche) or side by side (like in my Triumph)?


Does the system have Pressure sensors for each circuit, or one for each caliper?


Those are all the types of questions that need to be answered, and that all I could think of in 2 minutes.
There are many more for a system as complex as this.
There is no simple answer and not just one way to do it.

Does the system have Pressure sensors for each circuit, or one for each caliper? The system has sensors for each caliper. The car has an individual line to each wheel.

There are many more for a system as complex as this.
There is no simple answer and not just one way to do it.

we didn't get rid of it and we couldn't care less about it, it is a race car with a MXL in front of it, we kept the dash because car won't start without it but otherwise we would have taken it out.

We have ABS, trac, VSC, Air bag, check engine, anything that can be lit is.

Our engine never went in limp mode.

For those who don't have it already, here's the BRZ wiring diagram:

It's got alot of valuable information, if you've got the patience to decypher it. On page 220 - 222, it shows the VSC/VDC module wiring.

Here are the inputs:
- 4 x wheel speed sensors (2 wires each)
- CAN bus signal (low + high)
- VSC OFF trigger
- VSC Sport trigger
- brake light voltage (filtered)
- 2 x ground wire
- 2 x un-switched B+
- switched B+ (IGN)

That's it. The module can pull lots of info from the CAN bus, but it seems to be pretty self-contained.

With regard to accelerometers, we have quite a few... but they appear to be collision sensors. Left side front bumper, right side front bumper, left A pillar, right A pillar, left door, right door, left rear qp, right rear qp, and under the back seats. The manual has a good explanation of how the SRS decides which airbag to deploy.


Not sure if these are sensitive enough for ABS/EBFD/VSC/TRAC use.

Thanks for this valuable information. I have removed all the ABS sensors shown in your diagram above, but am wondering what number one is?

What would be your feeling if I removed the Can bus wiring?? It is probably this which triggers the dash lights?

I think that's the pretensioner on the seat belt. The diagram is from an ebay listing without much detail. It shows all of the different sensors and actuators in the SRS (not the control modules).

Having given the last mail some thought, I can confirm that these sensors do not affect the ABS or VSC.
I know of two cars in this country running without them and everything works fine.
