The glare isnt as bad as I thought it would be, since it alters the color of the light to a yellow/greenish tint its not nearly as annoying/distracting as white/blue/purple -- however I think if you arent gonna adjust those 'squirrel finders' inside of the lenses, then atleast adjust the height on the headlamps themselves, its one bolt right in the back/center of the light housing, very easy to adjust.

looks like an easy mod and a clean install. the stock one looks really pathetic when compared to the new HIDs.
im waiting for somebody to have a JDM/Euro headlight mod in their FRS.

I think at the very least you have to remove the headlight and reach into it with a thin tool to bend them.

How hard would it be to remove the headlights on these? Does it require removing the front bumper?

Not hard at all. The bulb and harness simply twist out in one simple motion. From there the fenders are pretty visible, I'm just not sure if you're supposed to bend them down or up, or by how much.

Judging by the beam pattern (and comparing to BRZ's one) - there's gonna be horrible glare.

Installing HID bulbs in a halogen housing is a horrible idea. They produce LESS usable light, they glare, they blind other drivers, they look terrible, and it's illegal.

If you want HID lights on your FRS, you need to do a retrofit with projectors that are meant for HIDs. FX35 projectors are great for this, as well as some Honda/Acura projectors. If you do it any other way, you're doing it wrong. Even if you do it this way, it's still illegal in the USA but at least it actually works properly. The chances of law enforcement giving you a hard time is almost 0. If you do it the wrong way, your chances of law enforcement busting you is a lot higher because they'll probably be blinded by your awful "HID conversion."

I HATE crappy "HID conversions." They're insanely popular here in AZ, with both ricers and the bros in their lifted trucks. There's nothing worse than sitting in a lowered car (or on a low bike) at a red light and having the dude behind you with a terrible "HID conversion" blinding you. Or going through a dark canyon road, and having a car coming towards you blinding you.

RETROFIT OR BUST! lol

Check out The Retrofit Source if you guys want to do it the right way.

Definitely hope we see a proper DIY for this as I wouldn't mind trying it myself just to learn a bit about the process and the fact I might get an itch for a mod.

the cheap conversions are pretty popular here in GA too.....they aren't absolutely everywhere, but it is happened upon more than my eyes would like.

Squirrel Finders bent down

I realize this will only anger the professionals, and I will eliminate the problem with a lightwerks modification in July when the car is down for 2 weeks. But in the mean time...."Incoming"
The glare above the cutoff line is now less. The area above the lights... the half moon shapes are barely visible. I will not post before and after pictures, this is a lesson in futility.
The 2006 Sienna Limited & 2006 Avalon Limited (Factory HID reflector)I used for a side by side comparison of cutoff and glare were actually brighter than the FRS with Halogen projectors and HID "kit".

July 14-15 was retrofit weekend...Like I said..I would eliminate the issues..

Before and after are quite telling, thanks again to all the diy contributors and to The RetroFit Source for the kit.

Did you get rid of the "UFOs" by bending the squirrel finders down a touch? The cut-off looks fairly decent compared to most retrofits without the right projector installed.

I agree that his cut-off looks pretty good for what it is. How 'bout taking a pic from about 15 feet away, and about 5 feet to the right of the car, during dusk?
