Matt's post is the most reasonable one so far. Just like most people I'm dying to drive this car, but I'm willing to compromise. I don't want lower than MSRP. I'm willing to pay the MSRP. I'm even willing to accept smaller add-ons like the bumper applique and the wheel locks, but I'm not willing to pay for leather, stereo and other options that are not things I want or would want in my car.

In my opinion, and it's just that ~my opinion~ forcing a customer to buy add-ons when your brand is under this false moniker of "Pure Price" is greedy. You can't negotiate down the cost to offset the additions that are being forced upon the vehicle you put a deposit down as your agreement to purchase. Trying to convince them they want or need it after presenting them with the base car is being a capitalist and a salesman though.

I am feeling a bit of pressure myself as I've offered to let a non-profit group borrow my car for some car shows to help get people to come to their booth. I was hoping to have my car, and have a few things done to it so that by the time the first show rolled around it'd be ready to go, but if it doesn't work they'll just ask one of their sponsored cars to help out. I just felt it'd be nice for them to have a "new" car to the scene to drum up some buzz. It also helps that my GF is the project director for the group. :P

At the end of the day though, no matter how much we all have this burning desire to own this car, it's just that. A car. There are far more important things in the world, and far more valuable things you can do with your time/money. A car is just a car, and no matter how badly I want it, sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to. Patience comes in handy in those situations. It's something I'm trying to learn as well. :P

They sales manager said to me it's all for profit and that he knows the car will sell. I walked away from that deal and said you guys are just finding a way to get around the pure pricing by bumping up the price with options. They are so full of sh**.

Then I had Toyota of Hollywood contact me earlier today and say they have an all white auto FRS. He said it comes with Lo-Jack and tint. I told him I want no options on the car. Then he said he can take off the Lo-Jack and add leather for $750. I said I'll think about it.

Long story short, I purchased a white, auto-transmission, from Kearny Mesa Scion this morning. It was a great experience! There were no options added. I did opt for the alarm system though. But it was definitely a very good experience. Kearny Mesa Scion is San Diego's number 1 dealer, and I can see why. They even instructed the service dept. not to drill holes in the front bumper. Boycott those slimy dealers trying to add profit to the FRS. That car is already appropriately priced.
This.. Don't buy the hype and get a car with overpriced add-ons you don't want from a greedy dealer.. Be patient and find another dealer.

Don't let your emotions affect your decision making ability..

What kind of license does he need to sell me the car for less than MSRP instead of adding add-ons and overcharging for them? A "desirable dealer" license?
You forget to type a JK and set the whole world a fire again. On a more serious note for those that live in So Cal COME TO A MEET.

What was I joking about? Besides buying a liquor license to let my friends drink beer from my fridge

So wait, you're getting the exact car you want, after this thread, but someone who put a downpayment months ago doesn't...? Something isn't right here.

This dealership is about to find out the hard way that they are making some very big mistakes.

I also read that once you posted they are finally at your lot, people came down to look right away. I can only imagine the laugh they got when someone mentioned those cars were about to have leather wether they want it or not for a few extra grand. I am sure they LOVED the car if they came down to look. They probably then, went down to the dealer down the street, and put their deposit down.

Not trying to be rude MrFRsLa, but you may want to talk to the guys you work for. You may not have a job for long if someone doesn't speak up

No one put deposits down with me. I am basically saying that even I have to wait. If I want exactly what I want. No, no one laughed. They understood. Neither of those cars had people's names on them.

The value of 3K to me is not some hack-job leather upholstery that won't be warrantied (without a fight) if I go to another dealership. Further, I am still left without the HID's, Nav, and nicer interior touches that the BRZ offers (as others have said) compared to the FRS.

Besides, leather is heavy, and it might be the difference between running a 15.47 and a 15.50 in the quarter mile....

Interesting read... I might need to email higher up SCION reps & show em bout these feedbacks & what some dealers are doing.

I know some SCION reps do read this site, but I feel like this "hype" & "mark-up" is getting out of hand. I feel like only 1 out 3 ppl are satisfy w their dealers.

I don't want this car (FR-S & BRZ) to break joy/smile of any members, cuz of dealers marking up the price tag.

I'm pretty sure there are some ppl that want leather seats & all the cool gizmos, but that doesn't mean they can add em to all of em. IF I was a dealer, I'll keep all of em in stock form, except for one. I'll make one for show & have leather & other gizmos. If some customer wants it, tell em they can buy that show car OR other stock one & add it. Might take few days to install it, but I'm pretty sure they can wait. If they take the show car, just place it w ONE stock one & make it show car. If I only have only one, I'll keep it stock & tell em bout the other options. It's better to move the car out of lot than keeping it in the lot.

...but again, I'm not a car dealer or seller, so I'm pretty sure there's a con to my idea

This is why when I put a deposit down on anything, I read the fine print. If there is no fine print, then it is a double edged sword which can hurt both buyer and seller since a judge (if it gets that far) can have different "interpretations" of the contract. If you were going to put money down, you had to do due-diligence first. If you didn't, it's Life 101 lesson. I'm sorry it had to be this way but now you will never forget.

Is there absolutely no way to walk away from this crap?

This is also the reason why I did not jump on this car on first year release. I'm gonna wait for the hype to cool off and the swoop in when they are plentiful on the lots. Saves money and headaches.
