The water heats up faster than the oil...

The other oil cooling kits I viewed seemed to make more sense in that you're running the oil through a radiator type device to air cool it during hard driving... So I guess I just don't understand how this "wet" system works.

Not knocking the system, just trying to improve my horrible mechanical knowledge!

Thanks!
Responded with even thinking how many posts were in the thread, this has already been answered...

Yes via the support form> get a ticket> email. My rep was Zach Tempone FWIW. Explained to him what I was doing and how I'd love to add their oil cooler to my setup. 1 week later...

I know this isn't $15 but isn't something like this similar and will clear the OEM oil cooler lip (plus it is thermostatic).

what would i lose by going 5w40?
Look at the oil's tech sheet where it lists kinematic viscosity at 40C and 100C. Some oil brands may vary because extra viscosity modifiers are used and others have very little variation, Amsoil as one example, has very little among their Sig series.

Compare Amsoil as a point of reference.
The 0w-30 has a 100C viscosity of 10.5 cSt
The 5w-30 has a 100C viscosity of 10.4 cSt
The 10w-30 has a 100C viscosity of 10.4 cSt

Now what about at cold(der) temps? 40C
0w-30 = 58.2
5w-30 = 59.9
10w-30 = 62.3

So with that being said, I'd definitely choose the 0w-30 but the difference between a 5w and 0w is very small.

so no need to rush out and replace my 10w30 with one of the others? and thanks for the info!

now for your next trick, if you could tell me how to make this go away for good... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30879

Considering buying this oil cooler, any input?

Having a tough time accepting that it will cost me $800 thereabouts to get a name brand oil cooler shipped here excluding install.

Found this on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-13-row-10...55646f&vxp=mtr

Aside from a lack of supplier support and apparently no mounting hardware for the radiator (I can figure that out), any reason I shouldn't buy this?

adding some more to my post 474 - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=474

i went to gingerman today, it got up to around 80 or so

it's amusing that you can tell by oil temps that my last 2 sessions were nice and my others were full of trains and messes. who did not stick it out through the last 2 sessions of the day, thankfully.

my oil temp (sandwich) and data temp (obd2, wherever that sensor is) are off, i think putzing around the gauge was higher? it certainly seems to be the case here. max oil 251. but if you look at my gauges (pressure then oil)

the oil seems higher than my max of 251 in the data. i thought i saw it getting near 255 maybe + but def not 260 or over. in any case here's a snapshot from the helmet cam vid:

this is from the long straight at gingerman, so top out 3rd then here i'm topping out 4th. i look to be about 7000+ rpms. my understanding is the desired pressure would be 80 psi, but i don't seem to be in too bad of shape at what appears to be around 60 psi.

yes it is; kinda; i'm butterfingers and horrible at installing things, i have a slight fitment issue in that i think the power/sensor cables for both gauges take up more space then the pod had an area cut away for, so it's not fitting as nicely as it could. i am lazy and it's not flying around on a race track though so i live with it. good enough for me to not touch. wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

tl:dr Is this cooler a donut style oil-to-water cooler as described in the following link?

http://www.mocal.co.uk/FAQ.html

Anyone noticing oil pressure drops as a result of running this?

TIA

i'm under the impression ours doesn't change the oil flow as much as that one? not sure.

in any case i have my oil pressure in post 486 which i think is pretty good for the temp and condition.
