Online or in your glovebox is where you will find the car's owners manual.

My dad once had an incredinly long argument with my grandpa. My dad was in favor of synthetic and my grandpa was in favor of conventional oil. My grandpa won when he said how synthetic oil is so thin compared to conventional that it'll start to leak out of older cars. Conventional is thicker and so it doesn't find every nook and cranny to drip out of.

Anyways...long story short when my dad figured out I was going to use synthetic oil for my BRZ I showed my dad the BRZ manual and how it "requires" 0w-20 synthetic. There's no proper conventional substitute so he agreed.

I drive 3,500 to 4,000 a month. My oil still looks pristine after 7,500 though since it is 98% highway. I would go even longer if I could get away with it for warranty.

I hear hash oil is an excellent, natural, green engine lubricant. Dunno how long it will take to make 4 quarts, but maybe this is something you can experiment with, Squady.

I try to change my oil around the 5k mark. Easier to keep track of and I don't have nearly as much mental math to do when I have to figure out if I need an oil change or not.

Ah come on Hunter hash oil is much too thick for our cars. Probably works great in Neons and Civics though.

How it actually works is that dino oil consists of randomly sized carbon chains. Some small, some big and the average would determine the viscosity of the oil. The big molecules get really thick when the temperature gets cold and the small ones shear thin really when things get hot.

The idea behind synthetic oil is that most molecules will be the same size because they are man made. Because of that, it flows better when cold.

Now dino oil does not leak as much because the larger molecules plug up small holes. Has less detergents to remove sludge and are more compatible with older seal chemistry.

Hmm... then why does this thread have it stated that the BRZ oil change interval was cut down?

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69840

I find it odd that the FRS and BRZ have different intervals.
