The engine can be stopped by holding down the start/stop button for 3+ seconds at any time. It's the electronic version of stalling the engine.

Push the button while in gear, then switch to park. Easy peasy. You aren't doing it while driving, you're just doing it while your car is fully stopped in your garage or parking lot or whatever, and you just hit the button before you switch to park. The car turns off but ACC stays on, finish your call, then hit it again to fully power the car off.

If it bothers you that much there are ways to hook up relays to make it work the way you want. This might work too...http://www.revolutionelectronics.com/Radio_Delay.html

edit: If you want to use relays, this website has the appropriate diagram: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#drto

So thread revive but I'm looking into getting a BRZ Limited and I thought of this:

I only briefly toyed with the push button start at the dealer but the accessory power will come right back if you push the button right after the car shuts off right?

If you just have the radio off delayed by a half second to a second, then all you have to do to achieve ACC from engine on is to press the button twice quickly. The car will shut down then turn back on, but the radio won't lose power and reboot.

You can buy a delay timer to do this, or you can directly make one with capacitors and a solid state switch, or a bigger capacitor and resistor. I'm calculating that with say 3 of these - http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-047F-5-5V-...-/361285070767 you'll get ~0.8 sec delay on an 80 ohm relay coil assuming the relay cuts off at 7V.

That seems like it could fry the ignition switch however, so perhaps it's better to use a transistor hooked up to the battery and a smaller capacitor. You could probably just blindly guess and use a 1000uF capacitor and throw on resistors to adjust the delay.

Or just buy a delay timer. lol

What is this strange "park" that you speak of?

or just hold the push start button for 3 seconds and just the engine turns off. it's in the manual, and linked a few posts above lol.

Doesn't work when you're at a stop, like people mentioned. Pressing the button will immediately kill the engine in that case. This is for when the car is stopped.

Personally I just leave the car on if I want to finish the song. Not worried about a couple cents of gas.
Did verify that it works to hold push button as rolling to a stop, and when engine stops head unit is still powered. Was barely rolling into parking space, clutch in.

is it different for the FRS (RS1.0)?

all i have to do is push the button twice quickly, and it will turn off the engine and keep the radio on.

If you are still rolling hold the start button for 3 sec and it will shut the engine and stay in acc mode. Tested it a few times and works flawlessly.
