Also does the muffler give the back pressure I need to stop the bogging of the throttle every soo often?
yeah you need to add a muffler in there at the very least, probably another resonator to help cut out rasp, but sadly cold start will always be loud.

cold start extra loudness is easily fixed by altering a few parameters in tune, see tune tweaks thread below.

if its straight piped though its just going to be loud anyway

My tuner doesn't remove them as they're part of the ECU self check at start up. considering my car was number 133 he's tuned, and he's seen just about every flavor you can imagine, i took his word for it.

+1 for the UEL Header. pair it up with an Invidia N1 and you'll get that signature subaru rumble

Sorry to be OT. If you have an OFT then you should do some logs of the bogging, you can probably tune it out.

High rev cold start is just to heat up cats for emissions purposes
if you have cat-less header its pointless

Three things happen Idle is increased to 1700rpm
Additional Fuel is added by offsetting MAF scale during warm-up
Ignition Timing is retarded by -15 degrees during warm-up

The retarded timing is what makes most of the additional noise.
You may get CEL code P050B if so just disable it its due to ecu monitoring "post start ignition timing performance",

you wont get heat into fluids like oil/coolant in 40 seconds or so, they take 10 minutes to get up to operating temps.
