Ah but summer is coming so they will drop off by at least 5%!
Ya, I could make time but the joy of doing that work is no longer with me. I would rather let somebody else do the work and spend my time doing something else. I just want the finished product at this point.
Now, if there were a bunch of guys and we all got together and worked on a car that would be a different matter and I would make time for that.

Oh and most of those posts are during the day while I am sitting listening to people babble away on teleconferences or such.

Has anyone ever thought that Toyota/Subarus outright defiance of adding any power to this particular engine might indicate they know that it is not capable of reliably handling more power?

I used to think that it was all about the platform and "perfect balance" but jeeze this is the only sports car in Toyotas entire line of vehicles. There are hoards of people both average Joe and professional reviewers and drivers asking for more power.

Yet they still will offer nothing in the way of power.
Its not like they have to mess with the original. Leave the 200HP version untouched for everyone that likes it and offer some kind of option or special addition with some kind of power upgrade.

Their outright defiance makes me wonder if it has something to do with the engine itself.

Wait doesnt the WRX have an FA20 boosted in it? So what gives? Is there some secret internal contractual agreement between Subaru and Toyota that says neither can touch the engine in the 86 platform?

That's what I feel. Considering the cars are built in the same factory on the same assembly line. Not sure it would make much sense for 7 vehicles to get one drivetrain and the 1 to get a different one (7-1 Toyota to subaru).

It makes sense for the BRZ to be a Ts model. The car gets built at the plant and then goes to STI to get chassis, suspension, and cosmetic enhancements.

As much as I would love to see a 250hp full blown BRZ sti, I can see the reasoning as to why they're reluctant to do it.

Question for you guys:

I missed out on the Series.Blue but I really want this tS. How does one go about buying a limited edition car without getting hammered by the dealer? I also saw a lot of Series.Blue deals go down for less than MSRP.

Advice appreciated. 2016 BRZ tS here I come!!

All you can really do is keep trying dealers until you find one that will play ball. The tS may be in huge demand and if so it will give the dealers the upper hand and you may get raped by some.
Now, on the other hand some guys managed to get really good deals on the FRS RS1 even with the Scion pure price so there is hope.

Payback and capacity. They don't have additional capacity. The additional revenue from a hotter version would be unlikely to cover R&D and/or additional capacity required to fit it in the line.

Anyway, I'd be all over a tS if I didn't already have an FR-S.

So you'd spend thousands more, then still ditch the wheels and springs that are part of why it cost more?

It's not unanimous. I don't feel it needs more power. I have plenty of fun as is.

Honestly, it's embarrassing when I'm laying into the throttle, the car is screaming down the road, yet I'm just slowly creeping past the station wagon in the next lane. I still love her, but the lack of power gets annoying.
Since I totally disagree as well that the car is underpowered, it's not unanimous. And even though I have a lowly AT, I'm able to select the proper gear every time.

ETA: WTF are people doing on the streets where the stock FR-S/BRZ is "underpowered"? Easy three digits on the speedo on an uphill passing lane is enough for most people.

ETA again: This sort of thing makes Mr. Tada really hate selling cars in the US. He designed this awesome little machine, slipped it past the suits against all odds, and people still bitch.

yeah...

I'd rather buy one for $35,000 and spend $4,000 between wheels, tires, and coilovers than buy one for $25,000 and spend nearly $15,000 on parts.

To overtake in an FRS on the highway, I need to downshift like 2 or 3 gears and floor it and it still takes a good bit to overtake and get back in my lane.

In my wife's focus st, I simply floor it in whatever gear I'm in (6th usually) and the torque makes it easy work and takes no time at all.

Underpowered is a subjective term. I don't feel like it's UNDERpowered, but at the same time, I don't think a little more from the factory would hurt.
