hear the old 5 year thing pretty much every year since about1979.
They may soldier on in some lower end cars for while yet but ya, they are soon done in any type of performance vehicle (Evo was done with them a while back).
Who knows, the way things are heading the internal combustion engine may only have a few years left in it!

Briefly but the thread is still strong enough to go back to topic!
Only the weak or dying threads can not recover from a brief deviation.
Sort of forum survival of the fittest.

Standard because automatics are straight up for pu55ies. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that.

I did consider getting the automatic (after hearing good things about it), but after test driving the manual, I knew I couldn't get the automatic (even though I never test drove the automatic). I may be a bit biased, because I consider myself a purist/traditionalist, and all my previous car were manual, but I think you're missing out quite a bit if you opt for the automatic. The driving experience just won't be the same. Granted the manual is a bit difficult to shift at times especially when it's cold, but I'd still take it over the automatic any day.

1. which type is transmission you prefer? and why?
2. If you purchase another vehicle in the future, what type of transmission would you go for?
1) My current FR-S is the auto trans and prefer it over the manual. I opted for this for a couple of reasons: the first being I've driven m/t for a number of years and have grown tired/annoyed w/driving in bumper to bumper traffic (405 and 110 in So Cal are horrendous during rush hour). Second, my wife would need to drive it every now and then and she has absolutely no interest in learning how to drive stick aside from the one at home *giggity*
2) IF I happen to purchase another vehicle in the future it would depend what vehicle I'd be purchasing to determine if I go manual or stick with auto. I would probably side with a DCT or DSG type trans before opting for a manual, unless I was looking at an older sports car that did not offer a comparable a/t that was capable of shifting quickly if not as quick as it's manual tranny brethren.

Side note: The other owners/drivers stating they'd prefer the m/t because they are either control freaks and/or would rather control their own RPMs, not sure if they're aware of this or not but the a/t on this FR-S/BRZ allows you to control your shifts when in manual mode; you can literally rev the s**t out of it the way you could with the manual trans. The only time where the computer steps in is when coming to a full stop, the car will go back into 1st gear - that's been my experience.

The manual will win the poll because of the crowd of people who think the 1 second 0-60 difference will win them a race (it won't if they suck), doesn't mean you should get it.
