1. Auto - Leave it in drive, hit sports mode and add to the fun with paddles. Regular D mode is unresponsive and the lack of in-gear breaking (due to not holding gears) drives me insane. As for the Auto being slower, well thats just down to gearing, which a simple diff ratio change will fix. Pretty amazed at how fast the auto changes gears in sports mode.
2. Alway's been an auto driver. Likely alway's will be so would continue to buy Auto. That said we do have a CVT in the family, but never again if I have a choice!

Depends on you and what you're more comfortable with and your needs. Also personal preference.

Manual, because i found out how complicated auto slush boxes work,
if i get a second car i'd like it 2 be manual, unless its not a option (is350, q50, is-f, etc) Don't you dare start me on CVT

Those who say manual because they "like to choose when they change gears" clearly have not driving the auto in manual mode. It won't change gears unless you change gears; you can bounce if off the rev limiter all day until you upshift. Automatically blips throttle on downshifts.....addicting, fast gear changes despite not dual clutch. Modern automatics, such as the 86's have come a long way.
My daily is a manual and I drive it everyday in Manhattan traffic; doesn't bother me at all (except bumper to bumper on inclines). That being said, I can't drive the 86 in auto mode, I too like to select(notice i used select and not change lol) my own gears. My right hand goes crazy if its not selecting gears. If you are unsure, take it to some nice roads in MANUAL mode and you will see how much fun it is and how fast it changes gears. |

Manual because I want instant response and gear selection.
I have driven a PDK 911 991 (2013 Carrera 4S) and I'm OK with an automatic of that caliber. |

Not to detract from this survey, but you need to be aware of the audience you are conducting it with and how they are of the enthusiast kind. That said I predict a landslide win to the manual crew

1. Manual: GT86 + auto trans = a sin; manual is a way better driving experience
, better gas mileage if you are concerned about that, cheaper dealership sticker price than auto, less temptation to multitask while driving (texting, eating, etc.)2. Depends on the type of vehicle. Small/sporty, I'll always prefer manual. |

Auto has taller gearing, hence drinks less than the manual

Prefer the manual because in time .... there may be NO MANUALS available. Most car companies such as Audi, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, GTR, etc. are going DSG with no manual option. Apparantly the buying public no longer wants manual transmissions. It doesn't make business sense for the car cos. to offer 2 transmissions.
So consider it a good thing that there are still cars out there (FR-S, BRZ, Miata, corvette, etc. etc) that still offer the manual. |
