More like mechanical advantage I think.

Anyway I'm with the 4.88 since it release (more than one year I think) and I love it, also due to my short commute and frequent back road use I couldn't stop thinking on how it will behave with a 5.1

Congrats on your mod and enjoy
AT or 6MT?
So you would go for extra 5% from 5.1?

Say hi to Wryann for me.

You won't get more hp per se but you should get more torque. I think that's what he's talking about

Ok
Will see with the before and after dyno

But the thing is mechanical advantage.

And I really believe this is one of the best mods for the AT.

I agree. The 0-60 changes a lot. I'm planning to do 4.88 sometime in the near future.

How do you like it?

I want this but everyone tells me that my highway mpg will suck a lot and that my top speed will also be a lot less and that my powerband will shift so ill have no top end torque

Still waiting for install. All goes well I'll be picking it up today. If there's enough time Wryann will put it on the dyno for a before and after comparison. Depending on the compensation within the dyno, there might or might not be any difference. I wish I'd thought to get torque app before and after readings. That would definitely show a difference.

I might need to undo the changes I made to my DBW tables, since the engine will pull the short-shifts better, now that the final drive has given the engine more leverage.

It will not shift the powerband, it's essentially a torque multiplyer. Torque will be higher over all gears and the whole RPM range. It will make your top speed less, say 130 mph instead of 145. It will affect gas mileage, but not a ton. It really only affects highway mileage for me (that's when I actually run out of gears to reduce RPM), and not very much (2-3 mpg maybe).

WAT?

It's is simple, lest not complicate things more than they are. OK?
If you change your FD (final drive) you have done nothing to the engine so expect NO change in power, however with a higher FD your car could pull each gear more easily. (Like now (FD 4.88) my car pull 4th gear as it was 3rd gear with the 4.1 final drive) and get to 114mph at red line

MPGs...
If you have good manner with your right foot you should have good MPGs "on full auto mode" but if you change the FD and enjoy the new found desire for acceleration (from the car) then bye MPGs. Even better buy an intake and some tune then go enjoy your car and forget about MPGs this weekend!

My Final Drive is finally installed and works great! Every A/T FR-S or BRZ or GT86 owner should get their FD changed to 4.875 immediately. This is the way it should have come stock off the showroom floor. I have to be a lot more careful not to spin my tires now. I was tired of ****** city mileage and being left behind by econocars and minivans at every stop. I had to give it so much gas just to keep up, then slow down after it hit 3rd gear. I needed a lower 1st and 2nd gear to give me an easier launch. This 4.875 FD does just what I wanted.

The dyno results don't show it though. I got tired of waiting and removed the insert of my Skunk2 intake, going from 2.75" to about 3.25". My MAF tuning skills are lacking however, the dyno showed I'd lost about 18HP and 15ft lbs of torque. So when I got home I put the insert back in and loaded an old tune for the insert. Wow, what a difference! Snow tires plus wet pavement = sideways. I'm going to have to put back on my PSS2's, at least in the rear, to keep it on the road. I can just tap the throttle and spin both back tires now.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on the FD.

But I have to ask for a couple of thinks:

1. Please keep the car on the road! Lol
2. After a couple of gas tanks share your MPGs (at first they will suck, but you will be so fvcking happy that you won't care).
3. Be careful! After such a successful mod there is a chance that you became addicted!
It won't stop!!!
4. It is Sunday
