Oil pressure question
Hey guys.
I installed an innovative oil pressure guage on my car. I used the port on my skunk sandwich plate to install the sender. When I started the car the guage read 40psi at idle. It jumped rapidly to 100psi, the max pressure the guage reads, at 3000rpm. I am assuming this means the sender is no good, but I wanted to check with you guys before I contacted innovative for a replacement. No leaks or anything silly like that. Oil lines are 8an Aeroquip socketless. Core is a mocal laminova. Woot |

Car was cold. Didn't leave it running for too long. I have an oil temp guage as well. I guess I'll let it idel until the oil gets up to temp and confirm?

Allegedly, cold start oil pressure is well over 100 psi. You may just be looking at the top end of that gauge. I think I remember seeing a similar post last summer.

Sandwich plate at the filter? Cold oil? That's normal. The pressures are real high there.

Really? How high do they get? The sender for my pressure gauge is too big to fit in the oil gallery location. If the pressure is over 100psi at the sandwich plate all the time I have no idea how to make the guage work in any helpful manner.

Took the car out for a spin. Got the water temp up to 200F. Oil was warm as well (of course). Saw 20psi at idel and 70psi at 3000rpm. Still seems high to me.... Is that about right? Or could I have an issue with my sender?

from what element tuning has cermized, you want 70ish psi all the way until redline. any lower than that and youll run into starvation issues.

I have read ideal oil pressure is 10psi per 1000rpm. That should put you at just under 10psi at idle and 70psi at redline. But ultimately I don't know. |

Yeah, that's ballpark. No worries. Remember, you're measuring upstream of your filter. It'll read a bit higher.

Baby, when i drive you, there is peace on earth I set out to thrash you with good oil pressure I was racing inside, I am a thresher (<- poetic license?) You do somethin' to me, the oil pressures droppin' Rev me higher and I feel no pain Every beat of my engine, we got somethin' jus' sayin' Racing fast is blind, it requires a dedication Honest racing, we feel, needs no conversation And we race together, uh huh Makin' laps with each other, uh huh Oil pressure measured up stream, that is too high No pressure drop between, how can we be wrong Race away with me, to another track And we rely on oil pressure, uh huh From one bearing to another, uh huh With apologies to Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton.
