I was under the impression that all rally cars were street legal ? Atleast the few people I know theirs are

Depends on the level and class. You are right though many are and have to be to meet class requirements.

Yep that is certainly one qualifier I would say!
How about when 90% of the suspension and brakes are changed? Or even the stock engine that has all upgraded internals and a turbo? Many of these things improve the car but also change so far from it's design specs that it more resembles an 86 then is one. Oh before anybody goes off on me I am not for one second saying the changes are bad nor am I a purist!
