I support (to some degree) universal healthcare because everyone has the right to it, however, our healthcare system is FAR too money hungry and expensive that simply brush-stroking a universal healthcare system on top of it as-is is a terribly broken approach that forces people into situations that don't fit their needs, at all.

It's pretty typical, the younger population want more government involvement, the older population want less. It amazes me how evenly split so many votes are, and makes me wonder if this country is REALLY split nearly 50/50 on hot topics, or are they just being spun that hard.

I still think we need a better punishment system for offenders, 3 strikes = death, lifetime sentences changed to death. People shouldn't be "OK" with going to jail or prison.

never in my life have i see soo many grown adults act like spoiled children, i don't care what the other guy "has done" i care about what you plan to do to make shit like Ferguson, MO does happen again. I want too what you'll do to make sure single parents can get the help they need to successfully raise their children, i want to see what you'll do to make sure education become more affordable.

fix the problems

don't point the finger.

Well said.. Not one of these assholes could say they accomplished anything or had plans to accomplish anything... It was all about how bad their opponent was..
The money wasted on these stupid campaigns could have been used to fix most of the problems.. It all Bullshit.

I never understood the point of a "minority government". Why is that even possible? It cripples the government's ability to do anything productive or bring about any real change.

I will admit I don't truly understand American politics but we have same problems in Canada. Trying to get your opponents to agree to the changes you want to make is impossible, you might as well be reading Shakespeare to your cat.

Normally I dread this time of year, but right now I'm loving Oregon politics. Thank God for pot smoking hippies!

The only thing the police could have done differently was to cover the body. They can't remove it until the scene has been properly documented for the resulting investigation and the coroner has come to pick it up.

Beyond that, what? Someone attacks a cop and reaches into the police car to try to take the cop's firearm. And then he bolts once he gets shot a few times. The only person who says otherwise is the dead guy's partner in crime; there's a reliable source, there's no way he could possibly be lying to protect himself and his friend. The police officer was correct in his actions, as the grand jury will decide so long as they aren't swayed by public opinion. He's not a normal citizen, who is allowed to protect themselves only to the point of being able to escape the situation. His job is to enforce laws and keep the public safe from thugs who pose a risk to the people around them. Like people who assault officers of the law and try to steal their weapons.

But that's not what the mob wants. They don't want justice, they want retribution. After all, the guy who had just robbed a store and assaulted a police officer wasn't a bad kid, he was a sweetheart who would never do such a horrible thing. And instead of saying "Person X and Officer Y did this," they said "Black Person X and White Officer Y did this." The mob made this racial, not the police. Is a police officer not allowed to protect himself and enforce the law just because he's white and the person attacking him is black? Should he have just tolerated getting his face broken and having his gun stolen because otherwise he would be oppressing the poor black youth? How could the police officer have done it differently while still protecting himself and upholding the law?

The problem is that the mob will never listen to anything that isn't benefiting them. They won't be placated until someone is sacrificed on the altar of their lust for vengeance. Because someone who assaulted a police officer got shot. Not one of them has said "Well maybe he shouldn't have done that..."

I'm thinking about relocating to Portland or Vancouver... Seattle is too expensive... and Denver is too cold... I've heard the PNW is beautiful (if you can deal with the rain).

It's almost as if people forgot about the Republicans bringing us to the precipice of default, throwing us off the cliff with the shutdown, and THEN blamed the spineless Democrats for the entire thing while getting on tv and yelling at park rangers for not allowing people into the national parks...

Nah, let's just vote MORE of them in to cut taxes beyond historical lows and gut what little social safety net we have left because all those people will just find jobs that don't exist in the first place.

Dems have absolutely no balls whatsoever, but boy do the Repugs like to pretend like they have the biggest ones in the room and will piss on everyone to try and prove it while simultaneously showing us how small their wangs are.

And before anyone chimes in again about how "both sides do it," one should think about the scale of financial contributions and obstructionist actions. One person sending a jackson is different from one person laundering millions through various PACs.

Also, a lot of people on hourly wages have gotten their hours cut, because it redefined "full time" as 30 hours a week and said employers must provide healthcare for all full time employees. Plus, people have lost great plans that worked well for them in favor of marginal crap that costs a lot more. Finally, we're paying for shit we don't need. I'm forced to carry coverage for women's health, maternity care, birth control, mammograms, etc... I'm male, will not be having kids. Why should I pay for that?
Ummm...yeah...FYI, insurance doesn't work the way you think it does.
