On the track low power forces you to be a better driver if you have any ambitions of keeping up with more powerful cars. Would I like more power? Of course, but not at the expense of reliability. The problem with factory increases in power is that it almost always comes with additional weight, and that's something that will definitely detract from the experience with this car. It you go the aftermarket FI route, the reliability bugaboo is bound to rear its ugly head. I don't stop light drag race on the street, so the power is more than adequate in that setting.
On the track the car has enough power IMO to be plenty of fun to drive. It's on the street where more torque would be nice IMO. I love the chassis, feel, etc of the car but whenever I actually do drive my BRZ I'm amazed how slow it is around town, but really bad on high speed (70+) passing.

I don't disagree that a smoother torque curve would be nice. Living in a metropolitan area where the bulk of my driving is done in traffic at speeds that average less than 40 mph, its not much on an issue. Now days my street driving is becoming more like the old man that I am. I find it mostly boring and I'm unwilling to take the risks required to even begin to extract the performance potential of the car. Tracking has spoiled me in that regard. Now comfort and quiet are more of priority. For the most part, I'd rather drive my wife's Cadillac on the street.

Actually I like how slow it is around town. Keeps me out of trouble but still can be fun just watching the people look at me (yes I am "a look at me" kinda guy).
I am one of the "mod for looks" crowd and not ashamed to admit that I am not looking for blistering take off speeds or wild drifting abilities.
As the car is my DD it will never see a track (well I say that now but...) and since I am not trying to shave a 100th of a second off the half block run from my laneway to the stop sign at the end of the street the stock power is plenty.
Have never had a complaint about highway passing, but again, I am commuting for at least 14 hours a week so I have plenty of time to get up to speed to pass just about anything I really want to.

I noticed it most of some of the long two lane roads here with the occasional passing zones, so you might have to pass 8 cars and to do so in the space provided you have to get up to 90-100mph since most of the vehicles are long semis. That's where it's painful. Sure I could just not pass.

Ya that would plain suck!
I am lucky in my commute is 98% 4 lane divided so unless there is some joker blocking the left I can just take my time.

By that logic, the Lotus Elise is only as good as a base corolla or a corolla XRS using the 1ZZ or 2ZZ. By the same logic, the evora must be as boring as a camry making less than 80HP/L when only naturally aspirated.

Kinda true I guess if you are looking at how cheap the Elise feels and overall quality of the materials. A car can be greater or less than the sum of it's parts and I personally would rather drive a Toyota Matrix over a Pontiac Vibe sharing the exact same engine pulled from a corolla.

Meh.... I have already stated that I tire of the excuses. They got lazy with this engine. Honda did it 15 years ago and did an amazing job, every enthusiast that doesn't own an 86 will agree that the s2000 is superior in every way. Now, those who currently own the 86 will of course say differently... The mind needs to reinforce its purchase.

I love my 86 but I can tell its cheaply made and was rushed. This engine is weak and underpowered. It will not last as long as many other japanese engines.

Eagerly awaiting hondas long rumored s2000 replacement while I mod this car. I'm afraid to say that a car is only as good as its engine, and no one beats honda when it comes to engines.
i completely agree with you, even nissan did the 2+2 lightweight coupe 20 years ago with more power. i love my FRS it offers something on the market that hasn't been there for years but the fanboys for this car are ridiculous

What part do you think is a lie? Given the choice of what we have now for $25k and a turbo version for $29k, I'd choose the current model.

The car should have Great handling. 300bhp. 300ft lb torque. 10 year warranty. Leather interior. Zero cabin noise.

I am willing to pay $15,000 for it used, 1 years after release. Why won't these car companies take my money.

Not being a fanboy but I prefer my FR-S greatly to my S2000. S2000 was an engineering masterpiece to be sure, but for me the FR-S is a greater overall package. Just as much fun to drive slow as it is fast, where the S2000 I felt needed to be beaten on to get the fun to really come out. Not to mention the S2000 can and will unexpectedly bite back with sudden and sometimes extreme oversteer.

Biggest gripe with S2000 for me was complete lack of any steering feel. No torque below 4500 rpm and lack of a roof were the others.

Also, with all the complaints about the engine in the FR-S -- have you never driven a Subaru before? Many of the gripes I keep hearing are what makes a Subaru a Subaru. Haha!

I've driven a friends FRS again recently and have started to appreciate this car again. I wish it didn't have the dip out of the box, but that can easily be solved through the aftermarket. This is our 240sx. If you want the power, there is a growing aftermarket for you to make this car a monster if you got the time/money/patience.
