So you're saying that Aussie 98 makes 20 more HP than E85? What the hell kind of gas do they sell down there?

No. What he meant was that E85 here should make 20 more hp than Aussie 98. Our 98 here isn't that great actually. Luckily we have 100 (which is actually 98 + E10) and this is slightly better than straight 98. But I was told this fuel is being discontinued next year

I'd love to stay on E85, but it's just a hassle for me because there aren't many around my neck of the woods.

Well I had an errand that took me by the ethanol station so I got one more tankful. This time I put in one gallon of 93. I also edited the cranking pulse width tables today. I'll see what starting is like in the morning.

Edit: The gallon didn't seem to do anything yesterday morning. This morning, with the edited tables, the car was running on the second try and it's the coldest morning yet.

Then he needs to turn that arrow around. It's confusing.
I know what you mean about the difficulty getting E85. It's in the opposite direction in an area I pretty much never go in my car. You'd think there would be more.

@Wayno are you going to be there at the next dyno day? Do you reckon you could take snapshots of each dyno graph to share with us?

I'm more interested in seeing the torque/power curves, rather than just knowing what peak power everyone made. This would give a better overall picture of improvements made...

Yeah I'm more interested in my graph too, which is why I'll run 98 instead of E85. E85 would hide the improvements to the curve made by parts.

It's pretty obvious that a fuel with a 105 octane rating (E85) is going to make more omph than a 98 octane fuel & so I thought my initial post was self explanatory.

Anyhow . . . what I meant was . . . going FROM 98 to E85 you will GET about 20hp without mods, OFH header is next for me.

ps: for me E85 is all about almost instant acceleration, almost zero knock & a big fat rush of torque from low in the revs which tapers off at the top end. It's not about a big power gain at the peaky end of the rev range. Essentially it pulls really well, torque dip evident but not as with Shell 98. It's a big improvement afaic.

Short of some type of FI, this is the single best mod you can do to increase the fun factor of this car. Unless you plan on going FI at some point, this is absolutely the first performance mod you should make. I'm saving my pennies with this in mind. Especially since it's the kind of mod that won't affect your engine warranty.

I logged the drive to work, which means mostly fairly steady cruising, a little stop and go, a couple of hard runs passing people.
I'm seeing some commanded AFRs of 15, with actual of 20. The engine load shows as .15 or a little higher, so this is probably cruising on the highway. Is that normal on E85?

It could be. That's the problem with logging such a long drive. It's hard to remember what was going on at a particular time.

Would E85 get rid of the occasional tip in knock I still get when shifting gears under certain conditions?

It gets rid of most, but tip in knock isn't a big deal anyway. At low revs you notice a big difference.
