I think in your OP at the bottom, you can see the O-ring slightly unseated? Could just be a trick on my eyes but that's what I'm seeing...best of luck and don't rush anything! Last thing you want is a sheered crank bolt...

I think what you are looking at is a little bit of oil that collected in the pulley. Perrin calls out that you oil the threads and the flat part of the bolt behind the shoulder which I did do. The O-ring is located behind the pulley.

You 100000% need a new o-ring when you replace pulleys. Non negotiable. That's where your problem is.

Don't worry about the bolt being centered, as long as the pulley doesn't wobble itself.

My O-Ring never came out when I replaced mine. I just made sure I oiled the bolt but I am back to the stock pulley for my SC kit.

If you're going to go to the trouble to install the pulley, might as well spend the extra .80 and replace the o-ring.

Thanks guys.

What I think happened was that the O-ring partially unseated itself as I was aligning the pulley and sliding it into place. I then torque the bolt down, which squeezed the sh!t out of the O-ring.

This would explain why there is only small amounts of oil and why there is a minor amount of belt wear. The pulley is maybe half a mm out of level because the squished O-ring. My theory anyways. I am doing to order a new bolt from a Subaru Dealer, and see if I can get the O-ring somewhere today. Would like to get my car back to safe condition

but in the mean time, "Hey babe I'm taking your car to work" She is going to be thrilled lulz at least she drives a fiesta ST and not something boring.

Anyone have the part numbers for the crank pulley bolt and O-ring? At work and can't research it quite yet...

BTW, Thanks for all the responses!

You have to grease the head of that bolt or the pressure of torqueing it will pull it off center.

From the manual:
"(4) Apply engine oil to the thread and washer of crankshaft pulley set bolt.
(5) Use the SST to secure the crankshaft pulley and tighten the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
SST 18355AA000 18334AA000
Standard value:
Tightening torque=20N·m { 204kgf·cm} {14.8ft·lbf}"

And the torque is NOT 90 ft-lbs.

It IS: 14.8 ft-lb, then 90 degrees of rotation from there.

"(7) Use the SST to secure the crankshaft pulley and retighten the crankshaft pulley bolt by 90° until the reference line (A) and end line (B) are aligned."

And the o-ring is labeled as a one time use only.
The bolt is NOT labeled as such

I did oil the threads and the flat part of the bolt that presses against the pulley. Perrin calls for it in there instructions, and it was in the DIY. I applied a healthy amount of oil, and as you can see in the pictures it collected at the bottom of the bolt placement hole in the pulley.

What Perrin says when torquing, is to torque to 33, then check your alignment. make sure the pulley is properly placed, then torque to 94. There should be 45 degrees of turn when going from 33 to 94.

I double check my torque spec. I torque it down. Back the torque wrench to min. value then reset it to 94, and torqued the bolt to make sure.

Sooo at lunch I went out and cleaned the parts with oil on them, then started my car. I let it idle for 5 minutes, nothing. Revved and held at 2,500, and nothing, revved and held at 3,500 and nothing. So i did a quick redline, and still nothing. Let it idle for ten more minutes and nothing....

So what I think happened is upon moving the stock pulley a small amount of oil seeped out. When I put the bolt back in, it was way over oiled, and all that oil came off.

I cannot reproduce the same thing that happened this morning, so it must have been that. I started slow and took a 5 minute drive to the bank, and it was fine so I drove home. I still plan on replacing the O-ring

Just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me out. It is really good to have a forum full of supportive members. I luckily did not have any issues but if I ever do, glad to know someone has my back
