It's still just a Subaru.

Or do you mean in terms of street racing?

PFC08 FTW. You'll get more track days out of them so they'll cost the same or less in the end.

I'd say your's sounds grouchy; kind of like "I'm annoyed and gonna tell you about it".

It is amazing what you can do with enough money. For example, for a few million dollars you can strap a C130 to a BRZ and really make it fly!

Correct, we smogged our 2014 BRZ AFTER we put the JRSC on; it was purchased out of state, which means its required to get a smog check to be registered in California.

I've always wondered how various "CARB approved" parts and kits worked at a smog station, come test time (I''ve never owned real CARB aftermarket parts b4). I usually revert everything back to stock (or illegal $200 smogs back in the day lol.. too old and don't wanna do that anymore haha).

But ya...what was the process, and were there any differences you noticed between a totally stock car, if you don't mind sharing? ...did the smog station give you a hard time, ask questions, gave a more intense visual check, or anything else out of the ordinary smog....?

They check for the EO sticker, look up the EO # in the CARB database, and match up the CARB component with the registered CARB EO component. When everything is verified, they will also add in the fact there are CARB aftermarket components on the vehicle. The new 2014 process that got rolled in as well includes a complete visual check on all components of the car and requires the OBD2 port to read all the sensors.

Our car went through the older sniffer process and yielded factory level emissions levels (way below limit).

You show up to smog, and smog like normal. No additional steps or anything, the tech should see the CARB sticker, and verify that the kit is indeed legal.

First and foremost, ditch the carbon fiber and get a full, custom roll cage, harnesses (I'd assume you already have a HANs device) and mounting of your fixed back seat. Then go with 17x8 wheels (do long wheel studs while you are at it so you can get them on and off more easily), you don't need the extra width that much when on stock power and the tires are much cheaper.

Your brakes are not the right price, $2600 is the list price for the endurance kit, but probably better to get the sprint kit ($2100) since it weighs less. I'd skip the cooling ducts unless you actually manage to need them, less chance of overcooling the rotors. And don't forget pads for the rear (figure $220) and some new brake and other fluids ($300 worth or so I think).

For the engine, I'd do the JR oil cooler (more capacity) and skip the radiator (not needed on stock power). Also don't forget a catch can and removal of cats along with a solid tune, probably for E85.

And the different steering wheel? I wouldn't bother with that. You would want some data logging though, for that price you could have it permanently installed which would be nice.

I'm not that familiar with the coilovers, but I would budget more for that; you want to keep the wheels on the ground as best you can!

If there were any budget after that, I would think about a different differential; the e-diff function gets annoying pretty quickly once you turn off the traction control and I hear it should help with that.
is a catch can really that ncecessary?
