I can confirm long intervals. I ran 0W-20 Mobil 1 for 3 autox and 600-700 miles of hard canyon runs (staying in high RPM as most was uphill) on a 7500 mile interval. Blackstone told me to run it out to 9,500 miles next time. UOA is in the UOA thread.
And this is with 54k miles on the clock already |

Stock Toyota fill at the dealership. I considered changing, but I may just end up buying it from them after my free services are over. I'll keep doing the UOA and keep track if it stays stable, but I see no reason why not. I have been a sort of oil Nazi on all my past cars and motorbikes, but it's nice to see the factory using good fill.

these newer well built motors have really come a long way in burning clean. the oil in my last car (2007 mazda3) would look good after 5k mi changes while my sister's 2002 elantra would have black as f*ck oil after 3k miles.

When will everyone learn that oil color does not mean much of anything. It's simply the oil cleaning your engine. It's not supposed to look like McDonald's French fries all the time.

I autocross almost every month now, and make a 1 mile trip to and from work almost everyday, so lots of trips without getting up to full temps. My car is garaged in socal so there's never any really cold starts..using Toyota ow-20. I'm paranoid about oil so I'll probably change every 5k miles to be safe. Everyone's situation is different, but I'd rather change a little early to be safe.

Don't worry about it. Canada spec days every 8000 km! The oil is barely even used up by then.

If you check your oil monthly and top off appropriately you could definitely go 10K miles between checks. Also, don't forget to check your air monthly as well.

I never got any free oil changes when I got my new BRZ. In fact, they wanted to charge me $200 for the BRZ's "first 7,500 mile service".

In the UK, Subaru intervals are 10k miles on n/a cars because the rental fleets refused to carry Subaru's unless they agreed to the longer intervals (according to a Scottish poster at bobistheoilguy). I know an Outback owner/Amsoil dealer that runs 12-15k miles on Amsoil, guided by uoa's. Some people aren't worried about Powertrain warranty coverage when they run a good oil in the first place. He's also a former Air Force rocket scientist so SoA probably wouldn't get very far if he took them to court/litigation over warranty denial. ![]() -Dennis |

so, we take both vehicles to a dealership for service that's much closer to our house, and have not paid for any service/scheduled maintenance yet (outback has had two, and the BRZ has had one).
